Re: Media Legislation
This makes the point. The Schmedia are out of control, and that such a powerful, perhaps the most influential Fifth Column is not regulated is absurd. Can someone mount a logical argument in support of the position that Murdoch can say what he pleases on such a world wide basis? Sure, people can sue for defamation, but by then the horse has bolted, and the defamation litigation simple aggravates it as the same Schmedia feed off it. Also, why is it that apart from Media Watch, you never see one section of the Media being critical of another? Fuck 'em. They have cruelly abused a freedom we gave them. We can now take that back, and they can whinge as much as the Law might soon allow.

Perhaps you should post a logical argument first.
Instead of a shrill load of crap.

Roach, you are intentionally railroading this thread, please stop.

The organisation Reporters Without Borders compiles and publishes an annual ranking of countries based upon the organisation's assessment of their press freedom records. In 2011-12 Australia was ranked 30th out of 179th countries, which was a setback from the preceding years, why?
What has the quality of press freedom and journalistic standards dropped in this country in recent years?
In order to determine whether or not to challenge all or part of the proposed Media reform package(this is to say, all or some of it's 6 bills)... we need adequate time.
If we are to oppose the new media reform, all or part of it's 6 bills which comprises the new media package, we should know exactly what we're opposing, not just the vague principles behind it.
After reading through the 6-bills, it's clear to anyone who attempts to read them that these bills are quite obfuscated, this is, intentionally worded to confuse even those familiar with the legislative process, and are unnecessarily complicated.
What we should be researching/reading
- The 6 bills which comprise the new reform package
-A historical account of our nations media legislation and press standards.
- Bills, and legislation that have been passed in recent years relating to communications and media, noting amendments that have been passed and come into affect in recent years.
The quality of journalism has declined in recent years, and rather than argue that we need a draconian reform package to fix it.....perhaps we should take a look at the bills the Greens and Gillard passed roughly 12 months ago, when I warned you all that this was a willful attempt on their behalf to degrade and lower journalism standards in our country, so as to justify Orwellian reform.
Malcolm doesn't think concentration of media ownership (aka press consolidation) is as much of an issue as it used to be.
I nearly fell over when he said this.

I want to do some more reading on this topic before commenting further.

Bottom line, the fact that they are in such a hurry to pass this new media reform, ... want it passed yesterday, should tell you there's something not quite right here.
That said, I maintain what I said earlier, re- it being more of a decoy.

It's ok, I have a built in ignore button when he carry's on like this.
I just skim over his dribble and get on with what I am doing, which is reading at present.

Re: Media Legislation
Most morons live in ignorance like you and mantra mel...
I'm not ignorant enough or so biased like both of you.
I know Turnbull is the shadow minister for Communications etc and as spokesperson for that portfolio has the right to state what liberal party policy is re the media laws.
You however don't even have the guts to admit you were wrong and what I just said is factual.
As for mantra she's Chester to your spike...

Re: Media Legislation
No, I did not write that. What I have written is that I am the subject of Legislation for just about everything I do (or I'd like to do)......so should the Schmedia. I am not allowed to do and say what I like whenever or wherever I like.........neither should the Schmedia.IQS.RLOW wrote:Aussie wrote:Zeig Heil. I'm a nazi dickhead
I agree there is a balance to be drawn, but at the moment, there is a rampant, irresponsible Schmedia and their own conduct has drawn the sharks.
An after thought.....
