When Gillard visited Tasmania and announced she would give those who had lost everything in the bush-fires $1000 per household and $400 for each child.... their mouths dried up in shock/horror.
Gillard doesn't mind dolling out settlement grants to organisations to assist refugees, but when it comes to assisting born-Aussies, forget it.
http://www.immi.gov.au/living-in-austra ... grants.htm
The Labor government has devised a clever strategy to discretely wire funds to refugees without having to take personal responsibility for the actual sum of money being handed to each refugee ..as this is left to the discretion of the organisations Labor funds to distribute settlement grants.
Sneaky indeed.
See, this way Gillard can argue that refugees don't receive anymore Centrelink/housing assistance than ordinary Australians, and whilst this may be true, when it comes to Centrelink benefits/assistance she fails to mention the Settlement Grants she has set up for refugees to access via organisations who are bound by confidentiality agreements and disclosure statements.
Even if these organisations wanted to gush, this government have seen to it that they cant.
Try applying for the figures re- individual settlement grants under FOI.

State by state....
You do the math, and take note of the 'organisations' being funded the most.
Love how they omit "financial support" in this flyer, though when you read the full PDF document, it clearly states the assistance they provide new settlers.
http://www.sgmrc.org.au/sgmrc/index.php ... rvices-sgp <----one of the organisations being funded to fund refugees by our government.
Why not cut out the middle-man and be upfront about what refugees are entitled to in the way of settlement support and grants when they arrive in Australia?
Or is it far better to underhandedly delegate the responsibility of distributing funding to a non-government organisation so when the shit hits the fan, and the public find out, the government can argue they were not responsible for the distribution of settlement grants, then blame an external bureaucracy for swallowing much of it up before it even gets to where it's supposed to?

Just one example..... the financial report is of interest at the end of the annual report, of which takes a while to download.
http://www.sgmrc.org.au/sgmrc/images/AG ... 202012.pdf
We need to delve into the financial reports of outreach settlement services right across Australia.
Apparently Australians should be proud of our world-class settlement services.
But at what cost?
When will this government focus on the budget and restoring a surplus this opposed to purchasing the immigrant vote?
Obama did something similar, only was more blatant about his gifting of minority voters.
Our government is far more secretive, one has to delve into the annual financial reports of numerous settlement services to get just a vague idea of the scope of their pre-electoral bribery and squandering.
Wasn't it Rudd (Kevin07) who vowed to make non-for-profit orgs/charities more transparent re- their annual financial disclosure statements?
What happened?

Or would delving into this be deemed racist and discriminatory, therefor we must shun this taboo topic at all cost in order to appear tolerant?

How should the coalition approach this subject?
With caution, this and detail the squandering by settlement services and how the funding is being absorbed back into bureaucracy, to create needles jobs that really shouldn't exist to begin with.
This funding is being distributed poorly, bad for refugees, and bad for Australian tax payers.
lose/lose...the only winner is the government (well, until the election) with it's false stats and dishonest manner in which it's setting about convincing new settlers they are receiving maximum assistance, when they could be receiving much more if this funding was being delivered more efficiently.
The manner in which this funding is being utilised, absorbed back into these 'said' non-for-profit orgs is wasteful at best.
But if they ceased to exist, like so many needless Labor-made jobs, our unemployment figures would be much worse than they appear at present.
Our nation needs real jobs.
Not jobs for the boys.
