Julia Gillard's Cabinet Secretary Mark Dreyfus, a Queen's Counsel, suggested the challenge was driven by domestic political concerns.

“I think when you've got the Opposition Leader in Papua New Guinea bringing a proceeding in the Supreme Court in Papua New Guinea, it does smack of politics to me,” he told Sky News.

Dreyfus, mischief maker, liar, prick...

Of course if he wasn't trying to be misleading he'd have said the Opposition Leader of New Guinea, or the new Guinean Opposition leader or mentioned him by name... but no... lets just throw the terms domestic politics and Opposition leader around. I can just imagine all the ignorant and rusted-ons jumping in at that one.

Gillard has chosen an ex-Athlete to replace a Senator with 15 years experience.
I think Nova hasn't got what it takes and may end up like Mal Meninga, regretting her decision.

On a serious note, don't know anything about the lady (Nova) but in my experience a female black person (I can say black I am in the UK... OK) generally have very strong skills and are better than their rivals just to get where they are. Do not underestimate her. She is probably very smart and streetwise, politically.

Now shoot me down because I don't know who the fuck she is.

In summary though, good on her, black abo and female.... against the odds has made it.

I look forward to the day that Australian has an indigenous female PM. This will not be in my lifetime.
