I'm no lefty but this from the PM is a good thing.

It is a difficult issue that need to be addressed and I expect the PM to take such initatives. Well done Gillard.
The terms of reference are clearly showing that the government wants to tackle the underlying causes of the child abuse issue rather than be an institutional witch hunt.

It is very much about looking to the future and taking a systemic rather than case-by-case approach (a flaw of the Aboriginal Deaths in Custody Royal Commission).
The impact on the individual and how these dirty bastards go about their acts needs to be addressed. The damage they do to people is terrible,. The Jimmy Saville case here in the UK has opened everyones eyes to just how prolific these crimes are and how institutions turn a blind eye to it. Also the law has a problem with dealing with a claim when it is the word of a child against the word of an adult.

This should not and probably will not be party poltical. On this one issue the country should come together and ensure long lasting changes are made to reduce these events happening and set up mechanisms to enable children to report it and for them to be believed and action taken.

Then hunt the bastards down and lock them all up with Bubba.

With six royal commissioners, this is one of the biggest royal commissions in Australia’s history.
Austrralia should be commended for taking this on in a such a serious way.

Australia may then lead the way for how other country start to deal with this life destroying crime.

Out of respect for those who find this topic uncomfortable to talk about I will not discuss it here on PA again until December 2015.

By which stage most of you will have realised I was right on the money.

Dont say I didn't tell you so.

Again, it's the victims I feel for, this "Royal Commission" is just more of Labors senseless politicking.

If I were a victim of institutional abuse myself, I'd feel quite insulted, insulted that my government used my experience of abuse to appeal to voters.

Theres nothing genuine or heartfelt about it. Not what so ever.

:roll Just my opinion, and I'm entitled to it.

End~!

Ps- You may want to make a mental note of Bill Shortens "Royal Commission" into child sex abuse disclaimer, so at the time when this thing is due to be wound up, (December 2015) and Bill Shorten is himself, leader of the Labor party, he can and will say in all honesty that he didn't think it was necessary right from the start, and naturally, this will please those he aims to protect most. He being of Catholic stock himself. :roll

It was never meant to bring child abusers to justice, rather was all smoke and mirrors to create the illusion that Labor have actually done SOMETHING meaningful for a change in the lead-up to a federal election whilst cashing in on anti-Catholic/ anti-coalition sentiment with respects to the leader of the oppositions own faith.
They had hoped he'd retaliate adversely, though he didn't.
Thats all I will say on the matter here on PA until December 2015 when the RC into institutional abuse is due to be wound up.

The Catholic church could care less, for they know either way it goes, they will have a good Catholic boy in office at the time this Royal Commission is due to be wound up, December 2015. :roll Be it Shorten or Abbott. A deal is a deal I guess.

Mel you are always entitled to your opinion.

Sometimes government does the right thing, even if it is perceived for political reasons.

This issue needs some focus. I welcome the focus. Maybe something good will come from it.

They should also recommend a policy of putting kiddy fiddlers in the open population. Probably a good thing they will not ask me what should happen.

On the matter of what to do with kiddy fiddlers, (Note- I am not discussing the RC ) indefinite incarceration.
Never to be released.

They don't rehabilitate, they usually reoffend.

I liken the release of a paedophile from prison to handing a serial killer a gun upon release.
