They'll always be the Pineapple Party to me, and the rough end of the pineapple at that.

Hardly. They did achieve a not insignificant swing. They did over-read the Polls, or at least appeared to for PR purposes, but in reality the ALP had such a huge buffer, they were always going to be almost impossible for the Borg to dislodge. He did a good job, and took a chuck out of the ALP lead. Next time, it will be easier.

If Fiona takes the lead, everything the Borg gained will be lost.

McArdle, the Sleezebag Lawyer, or Nicholls the Flegg Judas will get the gig.

Nicholls for mine.

I've met both, know McArdle very well, Nicholls less well.

At least Nicholls has a personality, and probably an inkling about selflessness.

'Mark' my word. It will never be forgotten here on the Sunshine Coast that McArdle was a partner in a local firm, Boyce Garrick, Terry Boyce being the Boyce. Terry looked after the firm's investment wing, and many millions of very local money went down the gurgler. Boyce was stuck off, and after a Law Society investigation, it found there was no reasonable likelihood that McArdle could be found wanting of due professional behaviour.

That may be so, but, as a partner, he took his share of the profit the Firm made from the failed scheme. The losers were the investors.

No one has ever accused Queenslanders of of being intelligent and no one has tried to prove otherwise.

Aussie brings the true believers back to earth!

State Labor's incompetence is only matched by the LNP incompetence. Nothing to be proud of really.

In terms of leadership, Lawrence Springborg might have done his party more service by staying around as an interim leader while they sort themselves out and a new shadow ministry finds its feet. I suspect his family commitments prevented this - which was probably what some LNPers wanted - particularly, I think, Fiona Simpson. The Borg’s exit also revives some of the emnities which had been contained by the belief that the party could win. Jeff Seeney hasn’t forgiven or forgotten, and the party’s most plausible metropolitan leader, Bruce Flegg, is out of the running not just because of his 2006 performance but also because of the continuing effects of the stoush that saw him lose the Liberals’ leadership.

I think that an urban leader is a necessary but not a sufficient condition for an LNP revival. They need a plausible and attractive leader. Tim Nicholls isn’t that person, and his performance in this campaign is a millstone round his neck. Mark McArdle is a charisma free zone, even without contemplating his other troubles, and the Gold Coast MPs John-Paul Langbroek and Jann Stuckey never really made any impact as frontbenchers. Any ex-Liberal leader would also have to be acceptable to the unreconstructed Nats - the Mike Horans and Vaughan Johnsons of the world, who might have been hanging around mainly for another go at ministerial leather, but certainly won’t want the Nats’ power diluted, despite the shift in the numbers within the party room towards the metro members.

Talk of an outsider can be discounted. Campbell Newman would be mad to leave his Mayoral gig, and Mal Brough crueled his chances durng his ill-fated Liberal presidency. Barnaby Joyce could hardly be more country in image, and in any case, has bigger fish to fry.

WRONG, the LNP got about 3% swing, they needed 8%, they did shit, and Labor still have a 21 seat lead.

Yeah. 3%. And yet Labor ran a totally uninspiring campaign, up until last Thu when the Fed boys moved in.

Imagine if Labor had run a competent campaign all the way through!

The Galaxy polls were 51:49 and the Pineapple Party must have known (Possum certainly did and the LNP would have had the internal polls etc) they needed 52:48. Yet they stopped campaigning Thu!!!!
