I doubt it was posed, looks too natural for that.
and yes just like the other 1000s of volunteer firefighters he is a "hero" not that he'd use the term like you do.
I hate haters.... they are such a waste of space.
Think about it, Tony Abbott has been a volunteer fire-fighter for well over a decade now, this and ran as leader of the opposition last election.

If he wanted to be boastful, why is it that this is the first we have heard about him being a rural fire-fighter?
If anything, he's been deprecatingly modest.

And as it should be when your supposed to be doing something out of the goodness of your heart.

Get the message, he's a decent bloke.

I know, this is hard for some to come to terms with.

Bloody pesky, prying cameras. Gosh, they really do get in the way of humility. A bloke can't even fight fires without being photographed. Bloody privacy invading media!

Still, it doesn't even come close to Gillards end of the world (publicity stunt) spoof.

Sorry, but there's just no comparison.

:roll

At least Abbott's keeping it real, and has done for well over a decade with respects to his ongoing commitment to the volunteer rural fire brigade.
Aussie, he has fought many fires, and the media knew nothing about it.

You make it sound like it's an either/or situation. It isn't. I'm quite aware that labor jackasses play to the camera, and you give them shit for it.

But if you want to try and deify "your man" because he goes out, with someone with a camera and gets a little dirty... pardon me if I say, "show pony", because I've been there, and I've done that. And if there is someone around to get that sort of picture (other than by dumb luck), you arn't anywhere near hero territory.

The cameras come out on training days, or when there's a show pony about. Fuck off with that shit, when there is serious fires to put out. On days like this, good pollies should know to stick to the command stations, and help getting thing organised, or get out there, incognito.

Knocking a community leader digging in to help with as little fanfare as possible yet it was Gillard who had to get in her little global warming comment and you are just another lefty proving they are nothing but pure fucking evil

FEDERAL Labor minister Brendan O'Connor has apologised for calling Tony Abbott's volunteer firefighting a "stunt".

Mr Abbott has delayed his annual holiday to volunteer with the Davidson Rural Fire Brigade, which is fighting bushfires near Nowra, in southern NSW.

Mr Abbott has been a volunteer with his local brigade since 2000, served as its deputy captain before becoming opposition leader in 2009 and has direct experience fighting fires.

The Opposition Leader said yesterday on Twitter: “I'm now on my way to Sydney to be on standby with my local fire brigade.”

Mr O'Connor retweeted Mr Abbott's message but added the tag “standbystunt”.

The minister deleted the message from his Twitter account and issued an apology today.

“Apologies for any offence. I respect and acknowledge the critical work of all our volunteer firefighters including Tony Abbott,” Mr O'Connor wrote.

How embarrassing for Labor.... :bgrin

Did you read this Boxy?

Not only are they as useless as tits on a bull, but they endeavour to obstruct/criticise those who are trying to be productive, as though doing something for the better good of the community were a bad thing.

Again, how embarrassing, for Labor.

8-) You seriously want to vote for this? Vote for Gillard who knifed her predecessor after achieving much less?

I still feel a bit sorry for Rudd, he trusted her, made her his deputy, and this is how she thanked him.

Gosh, who needs enemies when you have friends and close colleagues like this.

8-)

Are you that naive that you don't know that Abbott couldnt fart without the media following him, especially this year? You can guarantee Fauxfax would be searching high and low for a lefty hack with enough balls to go into a fire zone in an effort to catch Abbott pissing on a burning tree to claim he was desecrating nature

It seems, the moron shot his unpatriotic mouth off before googling Tony Abbott's decade long participation in the volunteer rural fire brigade.

Thus I cant stress enough...

How embarrassing for Labor...again!!

Like having Julia spoof her end-of-days publicity stunt on national radio/youtube wasn't embarrassing enough?

:rofl

If it was a political stunt, (which we all know it wasn't given he's been involved with the Rural fire brigade for over a decade now)..then at least it was socially productive.

Can the same be said for Gillards end-of-world youtube JJJ radio spoof (aka political stunt) Aussie?

Sorry, just no comparison.
