Labor minister Brendan O'Connor sorry for Tony Abbott 'stunt' gibe

FEDERAL Labor minister Brendan O'Connor has apologised for calling Tony Abbott's volunteer firefighting a "stunt".

Mr Abbott has delayed his annual holiday to volunteer with the Davidson Rural Fire Brigade, which is fighting bushfires near Nowra, in southern NSW.

Mr Abbott has been a volunteer with his local brigade since 2000, served as its deputy captain before becoming opposition leader in 2009 and has direct experience fighting fires.

The Opposition Leader said yesterday on Twitter: “I'm now on my way to Sydney to be on standby with my local fire brigade.”

Mr O'Connor retweeted Mr Abbott's message but added the tag “standbystunt”.

The minister deleted the message from his Twitter account and issued an apology today.

“Apologies for any offence. I respect and acknowledge the critical work of all our volunteer firefighters including Tony Abbott,” Mr O'Connor wrote.

Look, you know I voted Labor in 2007, voted for KRudd.

So it's not like I'm your typical Liberal die-hard rightard, I am the first to admit, if someone like Malcolm Turnbull (turncoat) were to lead the Liberal party this and be running next election, I'd be absolutely stumped as to who to vote for.

But what I can tell you is that I refuse to vote for a corrupt treacherous communist such as Gillard, because unlike her, I have children to consider when casting my vote at the polls next election.

Gillard is un-Australian and anti-family, how or why Labor handed her the Education portfolio I'll never know, much less the Labor leadership.
