Here we have an Indian teacher 'Anita' with a masters degree in early childhood education (she gained in India) who wasn't even deemed qualified enough to work as a mere teachers aid here in Australia so had to do a tafe certificate lll in early childhood development to gain employment here in Australia.
This was back in 2009, and since then ... government has relaxed the criteria somewhat, so now we are seeing a less qualified immigrated teaching workforce, teaching at many of our government schools, some of which cant even speak English proficiently themselves, and are still taking evening English classes to improve their language skills though are for some reason or another deemed fit to teach subjects such as science, geography, history in some of our nations most disadvantaged schools.
See, a private school wouldn't put up with this crap, they pay their teachers better this and can afford to be more selective about who they dismiss and who they employ to begin with.

You get what you pay for I guess.
Pay peanuts, you're going to get monkeys.

I was lucky and went to a selective girls high school where intelligence took precedence over money.
Here YOU go with the money bit again. You don't see bias and prejudice in your own statements? You again assume, and wrongly so, that public school educated people are more intelligent. Your generalisations are astounding and sound very resentful
Do you think that repeating my one line response over and over again then that proves I'm talking about money "again"? I don't assume anything. Stop making unsubstantiated allegations about what you believe I think or know. You're the one with hangups about money obviously and keep mentioning it ad nauseum.
You've got a bee in your bonnet over something. Go argue with Boxy or Aussie. They've got more patience with you than I have.

Yes unfortunately the standards have dropped substantially in public schools, although not everywhere in NSW. There are still some good schools around - but you have to be lucky.
This Labor government has really let Australian kids down.
The BER money could have been used more wisely, but it is still an injection of cash that Howard didn't give to public schools. Ultimately it is up to the states to ensure our children are educated to decent standards, but whichever party is in power, neither one cares that much anymore.

Whilst I won't foolishly label and slam those from a specific educational sector ...
I will say this. My youngest went to a selective high school and in hindsight it was the worst mistake I ever made. The school became overrun with Asians and whilst I have nothing against Asians they all went to pre daily school study, post daily school study, pre uni classes etc etc. The number of English as a second language classes kept rising. They didn't socialise nor did they play the sports most Aussie kids do. It's a pressure, I think, most kids do not need. School needs to be a mix of education and fun to bring about balanced adults
Whilst some of these kids tend to get the highest scores, not because they are more intelligent but because they are forced into studying for almost all their waking hours. This isn't intelligence. Anyone can do it. It's like training monkeys and although many may get high scores they end up with absolutely no social skills, they just cannot relate to people when they step up to become doctors/dentists etc

Sorry but you keep mentioning it with your unprecedented bias. Your assumption that private schools employ teachers with no qualifications, breed people who are desperate for the opposite sex and have no regard for education is quite unbalanced. Everything you said was an assumption and your 'arguments' sound resentful. Quite the rabid cow when someone doesn't agree with you!

Feel better now that you've got that bit of abuse off your chest. You've hung around here for ages - not actually contributing anything of value, but picking up on little bits and pieces of irrelevance and then making personal attacks. How about a constructive post for a change?

Black Orchid wrote:What absolute nonsense. At least bad teachers are sacked in the private system. In the public system they just get shuffled around so someone else has to deal with them. There are good and bad teachers in both systems. The difference is that good teachers in the public sector suffer because the bad teachers never get laid off if they aren't suitable for the job. They just get transferred.
Sadly that is true and I work with some absolute shockers who continue to breeze through year after year. Public school principals need to have the power to hire and fire their own staff. That would be a significant first step. Gillard mentioned something about implementing that but I doubt she'd have the guts to stand up to the teachers' union. SA state Liberals have promised to introduce that policy if they win the next election which is why I want them to win.

Who cares? These kids obviously don't want to be 30 year olds saying "Do you want fries with that?" every bloody day of their lives. If becoming a doctor/dentist means you're not capable of getting pissed and king-hitting someone on a city street at 1am on a Sunday morning then more power to them.

I have seen Indians quote their qualifications as thus:
Bachelor of Engineering (failed)... or Bachelor of Education (failed).

Monkeys, indeed. No doubt Aussie knows a few with an LLB (failed) too.

Q. Who pays better, public or private schools?
The best teachers (and any other profession) will always gravitate to where the pay and conditions are better
