How's that 'delving' going, mellie? Why someone has stolen your content then posted it here on PA in your name is a real mystery, one I'm going to delve into when I get a chance.

Hello therealmiranda... not sure that you are, but I'll take it as the truth.therealmiranda wrote:I think you'll find I haven't been "parasiting" my way around the forum. I've commented on this post which wasn't started by me but rather someone pretending to be me. I added my link to the blog after someone else had already pointed out where the article was sourced from, and then I posted an article I had written which I found relevant to the news Campbell Newman wants to make voting voluntary in Qld, yes I posted it so people might think oh that's interesting, I'll go and check out what else she may or may not have written but I also posted it to start debate about the pros and cons of compulsory voting.
I added my site to this thread for people wanting to look at other sites - my blog is not a dicussion forum but it is a site where people can express their views on the material published. They could also come back to this discussion forum and start their own topic on material they have read to create debate with other users of this forum.
Also, just because you may disagree with an opinion doesn't make that person an ignorant bitch.
Looked at your site. Nice, but appears to be rather slow, are you looking to advertise on other sites like this one to drum up some participation?
They tend to be a bit rude here, so try to let it go it's seems to have become a habit.
Speaking of which...
Could you clarify that for me. How is it that a "site where people can express their views" is not a discussion forum? Are you saying people can only express their agreement or disagreement with the article?my blog is not a dicussion forum but it is a site where people can express their views on the material published.
Oh and I noticed;
I agree you are definitely not an ignorant bitch. Nor are others that disagree with you. But it would it seem that some on your site like to accuse others of being rude etc just because they do not share their pov. There is one here that does that all the time. Surely you have invited all povs to comment on your blog?just because you may disagree with an opinion doesn't make that person an ignorant bitch.

Re: Potty Politics: Weird Moments
Hi, the comment section ultimately isn't the right space for a heated debate - we love to hear people's views on the articles and why they may disagree or agree etc but its not the place to have a long and heated argument over the content. Our Facebook community page would be more suited to that - or coming to a site like this and starting a thread would be more suitable.Rorschach wrote:Hello therealmiranda... not sure that you are, but I'll take it as the truth.therealmiranda wrote:I think you'll find I haven't been "parasiting" my way around the forum. We want commenters to be respectful of others views, including those represented in the post. I am assuming you are referring to the Lucy/Geoff comments which makes me wonder if you are Geoff. While Lucy was not necessarily polite in the way she wrote her comment, Geoff has been very forthright in his views verging on rudeness - it makes it hard to respect his views when he makes it clear he does not respect anyone else's viewpoints. Ultimately the comment section is not for arguing issues out and while you may disagree with the content or other commenters, a respectful attitude goes a long way, as does providing material to back up your argument. We make an effort to provide links for readers to pursue in their own time, if you want to say our content is factually wrong, it is common courtesy to do the same and not tell us to google it.
We want readers to engage and comment but once again if you want to argue head to a discussion forum or our Facebook page otherwise keep it polite and respect other people's right to have their say. It's hard to want to engage with a commenter in discussion when they don't respect the view you have expressed, you can disagree with something but you can be polite in doing so.
In terms of the site being slow - I'm not 100% sure what you mean by this? We don't publish enough content? If you are interested in blogging for us send us an email - it's on the site. We do have some guidelines for bloggers who come on board permanently, but these are loser for one-off contributions.
Also, it's not a political blog so that's why we like to keep the comments polite and considerate. If you are Geoff and have felt offended by someone please contact us via email and we can discuss removing any comments you have found personally offensive.
Cheers for looking at the site, I hope you found it interesting at least.

Re: Potty Politics: Weird Moments
I note that there is posted proof of every counter claim miranda.
One may consider your points of view rather forthright too. Even those which are clearly incorrect. Not to mention those that are terribly one sided. I'd have though a journalist worth her straps would be factually correct not politically biased. There's enough of that on SBS and the ABC.
I hardly think anything "Geoff" has said has been any more disrespectful than things you and Noni and Brittany and Lucy have posted. Nor were they rude.
I'd doubt anyone sensible, with their true identity on facebook, would like to open themselves up to a free for all political debate on the web. It could get kinda messy.
I'd think your political section, is indeed a political section. I didn't notice anyone being particularly rude or offensive (anywhere). Until Lucy decided that she found dissent "rude". I'd have thought that was not the case. If you and your posters cannot tolerate dissent or dislike it then perhaps you should label the site For Left Wing Progressive Politically Correct people Only...

Re: Potty Politics: Weird Moments
I would just like to point out that it is a blog - the majority of the posts are opinion pieces. I'm not sure which posts you think are incorrect.
I also have no problem with a forthright view - and I don't believe I have been rude to Geoff at all, rather I have pointed him in the direction of posts he would find interesting (even though I knew he would disagree with the content). I cannot speak on behalf of Noni or Brittany.
The politics section does have a left wing bent - because it is opinion and I'm not reporting the news, and I am clearly left wing. After all, it's a blog - not my job. If one of the other contributors expressed the desire to blog about politics and were right wing it would still be published.
If you disagree with my content to the point you don't want to read it, that's up to you.
I am not here to defend the content of my blog to you, just as I don't have to justify my viewpoints to you nor you of yours to me.

Re: Potty Politics: Weird Moments
I think you'll find I never said you've been rude at all.
Yet I note on your blog people are expecting justification where there is dissent and then when provided, calling the dissenter rude. Even your tolerance to dissent has seen you portraying it as; "forthright" or "verging on rudeness". Yet of course it would be a lie to call it rudeness, when all it appears to me to be, is good natured dissent.
There is no name-calling, no swearing, no unsubstantiated claims.

Re: Potty Politics: Weird Moments
I think he has been disrespectful of others views, especially in the comments of the latest post. It is a delicate matter which gets people fired up, but Geoff has provided limited statistics to back up his claims that its the cause of a small minority of a minority group. If Geoff has a problem with Lucy's comment, he can get in touch with us and we will consider removing it.
It's hard for me not to consider his comments verging on rudeness when his comments ask me to see the light and consider facts. While he may disagree, I have considered facts and ultimately come to a different opinion to Geoff - perhaps this due to age, gender, background differences - and I respect that he has a different opinion and I appreciate his comments but I would appreciate some "lets respectfully agree to disagree" attitude. I do think its great he has been so vocal, and he's inspired others to be vocal as well but just because someone disagrees does not mean they do not grasp the issue.
It's so nice of you to come to his defence if you indeed are not Geoff.

Re: Potty Politics: Weird Moments
I read that as a light hearted comment.
I note he wrote a poem or something on one topic and has had no interest or feedback about that yet gets "attacked" when posting a dissenting opinion on gay marriage.
Perhaps your attitude towards it is coloured by your attitude to his dissent or your assumptions about his politics. After all he doesn't always disagree with you. I saw the tv stuff. Even some of his political comment goes beyond what you've written and is in agreement with you.
Personally I find it hard to hold a point of view if it isn't supported by the facts.
I'd think if he didn't respect you, his language would be somewhat different Miranda. A quick look at many political sites will inform you of how people react when they don't respect the opposing point of view. A quick look here for instance.
I have to admit if I was to comment on your blog my interest would be the political topic. But I don't think I'd be popular there either.
