Jumped from 1st page ... education in OZ seems to be a disaster from what I can tell because the teachers can't read and write properly.
You'd be hard pressed to find a publicly educated Queenslander under 35 who can read, write and comprehend English properly.
Several years ago I went to uni as a mature aged student and was amazed to find remedial English classes for those who had already completed their HSC. That's right, we've got kids going to uni who can't even use our language satisfactorily.

As for Jews. Sure they make good scape goats, but I don't think they deserve the protected species status they currently enjoy.
Don't worry, history keeps repeating itself, and every time the Jews cause dramas with their neighbors, someone enslaves them.
But then most Israelis are real Jews, just eastern european Askenazi pretend jews who think they own the world.
And most of what most people regard as Jewish is actually Babylonian.
The sooner people on this planet stop identifying with one particular religion/superstition/cult or another the better off we'll all be.

Yes, because this government thought it best to solve a skills shortage crisis by immigrating substandard staff on temp/work visas (with a view to obtaining permanent residency whilst working for peanuts for a couple of years) than investing in quality education and qualified staff.

You pay peanuts, you get monkeys, all the good teachers are leaving the public system in droves, as are nurses as they too vacate their public hospital positions leaving them to immigrants who are willing to work for peanuts if it means gaining permanent residency at the end of their stint.

Of course, this doesn't impact on Jewish schools, as they can afford to pay their staff what they're worth thanks to the generous funding they receive from our federal government at our tax payers public school-educated kid's
expense.

Yes, children are Australia's future... and it's clear, Julia Gillard doesn't give a fvck about either.

Gillards real agenda is as follows... I urge all of you to read the following before contributing to this thread any further.

With our public schools being ran like small businesses, (becoming financially independent) and competing with other schools for both students and funding..it's easy to see the rod Gillard has made for the backs of teachers and students contemplating a future in public education in Australia.

Solution?

There will be no public education under a government she leads. Well, eventually, if she has her way.

Gillards solution to under-funded public schools is to turn them into independent business enterprises, and allow them to run themselves.

More work for the staff, students ultimately suffer... this schooling model has failed across the globe but our Gillard still thinks it's worth a crack.

And finally, certain interest groups willing to provide the funding will have a huge influence on these schools and how they're ran.



I don't need to tell you what interest groups have expressed their intention to take advantage of this runaway freight-train we call public education.

Personally, I couldn't care less if Jewish schools (or any other) remain unaffected by pitiful teacher and/or teaching standards. Jews have long been big advocates of education (ever since learning literacy & numeracy in Babylon), so much so they institutionalised compulsory education .. of course that entails indoctrination, but no worse than others who've adopted their practices. If the parents want to cough up the premium for superior education, good for them.

What I don't like is where these Muslim schools rely on the govt for 70%+ of their funding and then scam every perk going.
Although it is funny that practically every Muslim school in OZ is under investigation for fraud.

I just think it's a bit rich that the tax payer has to foot the bill in order for our government to throw the majority of funding at a minority who demands it, that's all.

It should be distributed on a needs meets basis, not to those who fund our politicians political campaigns generously this and complain the most.

Jewish school fraud charges may be dropped

An Adelaide rabbi accused of fraud may have charges against him dropped.

Yosef Yitzchok Engel and his wife Chana Engel are accused of falsifying accounts to create a Jewish school, which received $50,000 in student grants.

Both are charged with 39 counts of dishonesty.

Adelaide Magistrates Court was told prosecutors may drop the charges, but no explanation was given.

Another hearing has been scheduled for June.

Personally I think no religious school of any variety should get any govt funding whatsoever.
Unfortunately I'm out-numbered by superstitious psychotics who think having their offspring indocrtinated with their brand of religion is worth taxpayer support.

I agree, to a degree, however, given religious schools are deemed private, independent also, if they didn't receive some funding, then many of these kids would spill over into and place more strain the public sector ultimately costing the tax-payer more in the long run anyway.


See, meeting them half way, (this is funding them to a degree) takes the burden/load off the public system, well, in theory anyway.

Bottom line... Finland have a good education model we could learn from.

Over the same period government education expenditure as a percentage of total government expenditure in Australia fell from 14.2% to 12.9%.

Annual government expenditure on Australian government schools was $US6980 per student, compared to the OECD average of $US7262. Australia ranked 15th of the 22 OECD countries. The difference in spending on secondary students is even lower.

Finland’s government expenditure on schools was $US7178 per student. In Finland government expenditure on education was 6.1% of GDP in 2001 rising to 6.8% in 2009.

Ranking 15th of the 22 OECD countries is not something to be proud of.

It seems, our government has slightly increased the education expenditure on education overall, (public and private) though has distributed it in a manner whereby the public sector stand to suffer most.

This has to change.

Finland have the right idea.
