A totally plausable scenario. It happens all the time.

If the IT guy are stating this then they should be believed. I expect that also have inspected the Email Header that contains it's path through the pops and it will show this problem.

Yes - it is plausible that the date stamp was 10 hours out. The point is that this doesn't guarantee that Abbott knew nothing. It was reported in the Australian (a right wing newspaper) the night before anyway. They are Abbott supporters.

It makes no difference which party wins next year - all politicians are liars. Abbott is no better than his competition.
