This is in Alaska where it is legal to carry a gun. How would we feel if we saw someone doing her grocery shopping at Woollies while wearing a gun? Why would she need to wear one in the supermarket? Yanks and their guns.

Australia is fortunate to have had such leaders who stood up to our ruthlessly selfish gun lobby. How tragic, then, that our present PM will not represent the needs of the Australian people today and do the same. Just imagine getting into an argument with someone in a supermarket who was a bit unbalanced. In some states it appears they can shoot who they please if the gun owner is respectable and wealthy and the victim is either poor white or black trash.

FACT... gun control in Australia isn't a left or a right wing thing, it's a sensible thing and both Howard (right-wing) and Hawke (left-wing) have made Australia a safer place when it comes to implementing gun-laws in this country.

I was able to run around under 18 with semi automatic military rifles and shotguns. My parents had no knowledge. I puirchased my first 22 at 15 without my parents knowing. A mate order a 306 by post.

Times have changed... for the better in Australia with regards to gun laws.

It is the automatic nature of these weapons that has been banned. A good thing. At least you get a chance, a small one between reloads.

This is a sad part (all of it sad) of this story.

Though a shot-gun might come in handy for when you just don't have a gold coin for the trolley in your purse.

Cant reach a product on the top shelf?

No problem, just shoot the shelf beneath it and pick what's left of your product up from the floor.

Checkout closes after you have stood in line for twenty minutes behind some smelly fat person?

Again, no problem, with a gun clipped to your belt the checkout operator will knock-off work exactly when you tell her to.

We are talking about an assertive and powerful nation of people who know what they want and how to get it.


I mean, why let a few casualties get in the way of a good thing, right?

These kids will never know what it feels like to be in possession of their very own gun.

Oh right .. the 'gun problem' theme, or meme if you prefer.

I don't think America's problem is guns. I think America's problem is mentality or attitude.

For example in Switzerland all males do National service and upon completion given an assault rifle to take home and keep the country safe.

The two thing USA and Switzerland have in common are both have heavily armed populations and neither has been invaded.

So the question I'd be asking is "Why don't Swiss kids take Dad's gun, shoot up their school, and make the news?"

If I wanted to I could go to Singapore and purchase heat seeking Stingers or RP7 launchers, but I never hear of dysfunctional Singaporeans shooting down helicopters or blowing holes in high rises.

If you wanted to you could go to New Zealand and legally acquire Kalashnikov or Armorlite assault rifles, but I never hear of Kiwi kids with a chip on their sholder blasting their rivals at the footy, or even Black Power Vs Mongrel Mob car park gun battles.

Shogun era Japan is a prime historical example of what happens when the rulers disarm the people.

Gun control is about protecting politicians. Totalitarianism begins with weapons regulation.
