Re: Choosing a Gun
And it's not only the middle Eastern kids... have you heard of "Lads"?
These guys are mostly impoverished white Australians,(white trash) with a few islanders tossed in for good measure and they travel on trains and cause mischief wherever the train stops.
Most are teens, under 20.
They try hard with the American street culture thingy.
But then again, most of them are off their faces on meth/Ice so it's understandable.

They are from war torn countries? You mean like the middle east? The ones who abhor Americans and their culture?mantra wrote:A lot of these youth in Western Sydney do try and emulate American gangsters - after all they've been brought up on violent movies and games too and to add fuel to the fire their parents are often from war torn countries so they're not reined in. Most of us 2nd, 3rd and 4th generation Aussies haven't known violence or deprivation so our children are raised accordingly.
Much of the violence in all countries is related to drugs. Your point?mantra wrote:Don't you think much of the violence in the US is related to drugs?

Re: Choosing a Gun
OMG, I had to laugh at this articles description of the " Super-Geek".... that's my son all over, complete with black rim glasses and polo or white collared black or white button up shirt.
It's fascinating, how they even wear uniforms to alert others to what kind of clan they belong to...their sense of identity and belonging is so important to them, even without realising this themselves I think.
Ie, If I were to tell my son he wears a "Super-Geek" uniform, he'd probably look at me strange.
----- So I wont spoil it for him.. or embarrass him.. .. this or let him know I am aware of the tribe he belongs too.
.... Though is this American? No, I think some 'clans' are pretty much universal...especially the one my son seems to belong to...even if he rarely leaves his cyber-dungeon...for if he does, it's only to visit friends in their cyber-dungeons or go to college.
I cant for the life of me understand why my son visits friends, only to interact with them on his lap-top, the way he would if he just stayed at home and talked to them online here.
He calls them Lan-partys.
Whatever the hell this is.

Like Black Orchid, I don't see a lot of gansta rap cultcha on the streets... not even on the music channels so much either.

Be a passenger on Sydney's trains (preferably the western line going into the city) after 8pm.
You will be able to observe this American wanna-be species (Lads) in their natural habitat.
Make sure you take your pepper spray though.

I use public transport all the time Mellie and you clearly don't. Even in Sydney, people are still commuting to and from work at and after 8pm.mellie wrote:Sexy Lady wrote:Like Black Orchid, I don't see a lot of gansta rap cultcha on the streets... not even on the music channels so much either.

When I say after 8... I mean any time from 8pm to early hours of the morning.
It's a well known fact, travelling on the train alone, along the western lines late at night runs the risk of being in the company of 'Lads'..

Re: Choosing a Gun
Urban dictionary... this pretty well sums them up, is how my son describes them.western sydney lad
Found hanging around train stations at 7:30 (waaay past their bedtime) on a saturday/friday night, just waiting to go and 'bash dos try hard lads up'
They are usually found in the western suburbs of Sydney (penrith, blue mountains, rooty hill, blacktown, mt druitt ect) wearing striped shirts with their collars up, canturbury/adidas/nike ect track pants or footy shorts, white caps (also polo/sports brands), nike TNs or any other type of sport branded clothes.
They are seen hanging around on street corners or train stations in big circles acting all 'hard'. (they're really not)
Also hanging around with Lasses (female equivalent of a lad).
They usually talk about things being "eshays" (who knows what the actually means).
