I thought Obamas crocodile tears were in poor taste.

He appears mechanical, desensitised ...somewhat removed from this recent school shooting tragedy.

I'm not even American though cried when the teacher related to the media how she had instructed her class of six year olds to huddle into the corner of their classroom when she heard the gunshots,then told them how she loved them all very much anticipating the gunman was coming down the hallway and was going to shoot them all next.

Americas entrenched gun culture will be hard if not impossible to break, they suffer with loaded-god complex, this and feel so entitled to their firearms.

Changing Americas gun laws spells political suicide, and I doubt Obama has the balls or inclination to make this sort of a difference if his crocodile tears are anything to go by.

It is likely that those who support guns are not Obama supporters anyway.

Once an unfortunate truth, however, I think times are a'changing whereby the world would rather not become like America.



Kids may follow their music, fashion and even culture to a degree, but I'm hearing more and more Australians kids bag-out America these days ... this and prefer to celebrate their own Australian culture.

It's no longer cool to be American!

And I think this comes with more of our kids interacting with kid's from all over the world on-line, this and realising that everyday American kids lifestyles aren't exactly 'glam' or how their lives are all too often portrayed in the movies.

They are realising that Americans, this is everyday run-of-the-mill Americans are not exactly living the high life, to the contrary.

I feel so sorry for American kids...because being a kid is tough enough these days without the added worry of wondering if you will be gunned down in what's supposed to be a safe learning environment.

Just awful, far too many school shootings in America, something has to change for the better.

How about Obama gets his finger out and implements new gun legislation?

Ok, it wont be well received, in fact, he will without a doubt lose the next election but hey...at least he will retire with the right kinda bang, this and be forever known as the president who thought enough about the kids to sacrifice his own presidency.

Time for drastic change.

Even some Americans hate what America has become. I have lots of American epals whom I have been emailing for years. Most admit to voting Republican, some are regular Church goers, others have nothing to do with religion. All are family people. None live in Trailer Parks.

I can't ever recall Aussies wanting to be like the Yanks. In fact, I remember working with Americans who actually called themselves Canadians, because they had heard that we "don't like Americans". We sussed them out though.

So far we haven't got the criminal problems that America (and the UK) have because we still have a minority of "coloured folk". Sure, Caucasians are crooks as well but ........

Unfortunately Nef, we do have a 'minority' of youth here in Australia who relate with a 'minority' youth street culture over in the United States, this and even aspire to look and talk just like them.

Think..."Yo Bro" beat boxing, Sports gear, black caps, all that crap.

Though like you say, we don't have the same degree of 'minority' concern here in Australia (yet!) so for the better part, a majority of Australian kids are happy just being Ozzies, this and don't "Try-hard" and or over do it with Americanisms.

It depends on the area, ...some of the more scummy/poorer areas in Sydney have a certain slum-dog American street culture air about them.

But our kids generally stay away from these areas, thank god...this or just poke fun of kids who live in them.
Of course this isn't nice, but it demonstrates that they dislike the idea of becoming like them and I'm not going to complain about that.

The violent street culture in Sydney and the daily shootings have absolutely nothing to do with American street culture and ALL to do with middle eastern violent enclaves in their fight over drugs and weapons

No kid in their right mind would go to the south western or western suburbs to "make fun" of anyone there! Really!

I'm not saying they go there to make fun of them, they generally drive through the suburbs for a gawk, this and make fun of them from the safety of their cars locked doors and closed windows.

Noone in their right mind would actually get out of the car then ask them why they try-hard to be Americans with their baseball caps on backwards, imitation designer sportswear and fake *Bling*

Similar to how we used to go for a drive through the Cross (Kings Cross) just to observe the sights on Oxford St.

A lot of these youth in Western Sydney do try and emulate American gangsters - after all they've been brought up on violent movies and games too and to add fuel to the fire their parents are often from war torn countries so they're not reined in. Most of us 2nd, 3rd and 4th generation Aussies haven't known violence or deprivation so our children are raised accordingly.

Don't you think much of the violence in the US is related to drugs?
