She was not a happy person. I truly believe there is a cancer personality and she was it.
I have thought this too at times, and pondered the emotional connection with such a disease. I've known alot of people who tend to surpress alot of emotion and harbour alot of anger fight cancer but in saying that it is certainly not true of others so I'm still pondering .

Monk I hear you re the Fast Food , I've no doubt of links between our modern processed diet, the meat industry and the incidence of allergy , diabetes , cancer and so on. So much of our food is so full of stuff we just shouldn't be ingesting but sadly the options to date cost more and I think that is a big obstacle for even the most conscious and health aware city dwellers economically these days. Of course only by spending extra will we create the demand that will eventually mean the costs are not so high for Organic/Free Range and the like but it's not seeming to happen in a hurry.
Have you read The Ethics of What we eat by Peter Singer? Great Read

Haven't read it but have seen it mentioned a few times. Will look for it.

My garden in which I don't use chemicals supplies a fair bit of veges and I want to get a few bantam hens.

When ever I have a freind or loved one with the bad news of cancer I always yell out "what do you want to come back as in your next life? Think fast."

Those of you who have heard of a diagnosis of cancer of a friend or relative, what was your first thought to yourself? Was it along the lines of, "How long does he have?" or "He can beat that cancer?"
I think of neither. I have first hand experience with both 'friend' and family.

I seek information from them about what is going on, and we march on from there.

In the case of my 88 year old Father who went through seven weeks of radiation treatment for prostate cancer, finishing up on Xmas Eve 2008, the first thought was, 'This tough old Bastard will not die of cancer. Why does he want that sort of punishment?' He had the treatment, and lived with us while he did so. He is now back home in Bundaberg enjoying himself, to the extent he can.

More later................

two exits I'd contemplate. A bullet through the back of the brain, or a potent drug OD. Heroin or Morphine maybe. Nembutal would be sweeter but you can't get it here. quick, clean and no fuss.

......and here is the 'later'.....

I cannot recall whether I have ever revealed this. If not, here is a PA scoop on the Wider World of 'Aussie.'

Years ago, circa 1994/5, The Indian Bride and I took in a young bloke, then about 15/16. He was a friend of my youngest step-daughter, and he had a troubled situation at his home. Mum and Dad had separated, and he was living with Mum and her partner, his 'Step-Dad.' Said Step Dad was causing grief, grief, grief, and was physically abusive of him. His Mum was powerless to deal with it.

We offered him a "Home" with us, and, great balls to him, he accepted.

His real Dad and his real Mum move on and away from the Sunshine Coast, and Jase becomes part of our lot, through High School, and through University etc.

His Mum and Dad were always part of his benchmarks, his 18th, his 21st etc etc, but they had their World and Jase had his secured Home here.

His Dad is a total hippie, and enjoys a life on the road. His Mum, through happenstance, has not had an easy time, but she managed to keep afloat and her dignity.

Jase is getting married to a lovely Lady in May this year.

His Mum is now diagnosed with cancerous tumours on her brain. When that diagnosis was made, she was in Burketown, Qld.

AiA, I asked neither of those questions.

I offered her our Home, and she is now occupying the very same bedroom as did Johnson, the Chinese Student, yes he was real, as is Jase's Mum.

She has had the only treatment they can offer.

Neither I, nor The Indian Bride, expect her to be alive in many months, but we all hope she can make it to Jase's wedding.

Science hasn't found that absolute link between cancer and emotions but there is a lot of evidence that points that way. Science, as it is today, resists any idea that the universe may not be what they claim it is -- purely physical.

So do I. What a great thing to do.

Meanwhile my husband has a referral to an ENT to see if he has throat cancer. My reaction is to try not to think about it. If there's anyone who wouldn't eat healthily to prolong what in many ways hasn't been a very happy life, it's him.
