Wrong as usual Juvenile Monk... on all counts... start a poll... I might accede to the result... just as long as you guarantee, that there is one vote for one person.

Why not join the debate JM? Too hot in the kitchen for you?

Don't believe you Annie.
Please don't make me email them all.

How about you tally them up for me.
How about you start listening to some who happen to know how things are in the United States.

If you can't do that, then I invite you to come up here and get to know the culture, the mindset, the politics and the worldview here in America, and see for yourself.

While you are at it, get to know the fundamentalist evengelical break-away "bible" churches (every neighborhood across America is now crawling with them) whose pastors aren't really ordained and many of whom never even graduated from a real theological seminary, and preach on a mere Certificate of License for the Gospel Ministry, instead of a genuine Certificate of Ordination, and who don't know diddlysquat about modern science; who know nothing about archaeology, geology, cosmlogy, quantum physics, quantum mechanics, the Theory of Relativity, the Theory of Gravity, the cosmological constant of the Speed of Light, or the fact of evolution of life on earth for the past four and half billion years.

These people actually think that dinosaurs lived at the same time as humans, and that people rode around on T Rex on a saddle, like a horse.

I'm just saying that most of the rightwing Tea Baggers and the Grand Old Party (that really isn't so grand anymore) believes the Bible as literally true, as written in English, and somehow their creationist worldview has hijacked politics in these past decades, and as a result they have an influence on the laws of this country.

Our Constitution states that there is to be separation of church and state, so that each is protected in its own right. Faith is perfectly okay, as long as religious people keep it in their churches and homes, and don't try to force their own moral values based on ancient mythical stories of the Bible down the throats of others.

Most of the fundies are rightwingers here, in every state, and they believe in supernatural fairytales made up thousands of years ago that could never have happened, and try to force their views and influence onto the government to change the laws to fit their beliefs, and that's a fact.

Have friends and relos there Annie... they don't all agree with your political pov.
BTW I do know about the Creationists thanks...
In fact I'm pretty aware of most of the looney thinking over there... that's why there is a saying..."only in America". But I am also aware they like those here do not vote just for one side of politics.

I expect you however to have respect for those people you say believe in "fairytales" because darlin' a great deal of the world's population does and those that don't can't disprove their beliefs. In fact some of the world's greatest minds believed in a God. I expect that question to be answered in time. I don't usually link God and State... I believe in a secular nation, even though I know that in the US that is not so for many. But many isn't all. Nor is it just one side of the political divide.

The questions can pretty much be answered in the modern day by science, you know. Even the Vatican accepts evolution now, and does not interpret Genesis as literally written in English.

The Old Testament was taken from the Jewish Torah and written in Hebraic, and centuries later the New Testament was written in Greek, as a collection of stories about a Jewish preacher who taught about loving your neighbor as yourself, and things like that.

The gospels about that preacher were written by scribes between the years 60 AD and 90 AD. Historians are unsure that the men who wrote them actually knew the person Jesus.

But certainly men named Matthew, Mark, Luke and John did not actually write them. Anonymous scribes wrote them, and embellished the stories about Yeshua (Jesus is a westernized name) to exaggerate for the sake of literary significance.

Then in the fourth century AD, Roman Emperor Constantine had his scribes rewite the old scriptures, set some them aside, change some of the text, and then transcribe it all into Latin: hence the Latin Vulgate Bible. And that marked the beginning of Roman Catholicism.

From there, all other Christian denominations arose, and much has been changed when it comes to the interpretation of the Bible. The original scriptures were very different from the Bible we know today.

It is an anthology of stories originally written in the Bronze Age by shepherds who were in awe and wonderment about nature, and who had no science. Today science can explain what people thought was supernatural back then.

How do I know this? Because I have a background in theology and am a liturgical minister of the Episcopal Church of the USA.

Ummm, I'm sorry to say that here in the Australia the nutbags really are mostly leftwing warmerists.

The great majority of Letwingers are athiest Gaia worshippers who believe in nothing but what they can get handed to them by the govt and failed models from discredited so-called climate scientists, and think we will all be rooned between 10-20 years from now

Annie.... Creationists are a very small minority... one I'm not a member of.
I suggest you only need look to the word DAY to realise why they have it wrong.

You have to stop assuming I know nothing or that what you know is "gospel".
I probably know more about religions and theology than you.

This is not and I repeat NOT a religious topic please, don't turn it into one... start one.

Actually over the past few decades creationism and the literalist evangelical take on Christianity has been gathering momentum in the USA, has been worming its way into our politics, and so in fact does relate to this topic.

And what makes you think you know more about theology and historical Christianity than I do?

What makes you think I need any of this explained to me?
I don't.
Personally I think you are creating a mountain out of a mole hill re a very small minority. The vast majority of Christians are not Evangelicals nor are they Creationists. Like I said... start a topic.

Sorry, but as an American the statements I have made are true, here in America, to the best of my knowledge.

The name of this thread is "US election result - why?"

I've contributed a reason why: extremism. Romney was considered an extremist: personal extremism, religious extremism and party extremism.

He lost the election because of his corporate interests, his flip-flops and lies, his lack of tax returns, his foreign and domestic flubs, his extreme views on women, jobs and healthcare, and his evangelical creationist religious extremist running mate Paul Ryan.
