The debate just ended and the President was ... presidential. A definite U-turn for Obama. Had Obama performed in the first debate as he did in this one, Romney never would have made the gains he had. But can Obama's performance arrest Romeny's gains?

I was in the US last week.

The more I here about how the place runs from expat Aussies and Poms living there the more I think the US model is crap.

If you fall out of luck and have little money you are dead meat. I am all for capitalism but to have poor systems that fail to look after the ragged masses (e.g. Healthcare ...etc) one day the pissants will rebel.

They were both excellent.

I think the rest of the world is so used to reviling US politicians that they simply cannot recognise when they have two intelligent, talented candidates engaged in genuine debate.

Four years ago if you we're told that a candidate would come out in favour of gay marriage and this would not be mentioned even once in any of the presidential debates you would have not believed it. For the most part these two have been focused on real, important and non-wedge issues, for the first time in my living memory of presidential elections.

There is not a joe the plumber, not a swift boat or an illegitimate black baby to be found.

IMO whomever they elect, the US will have chosen well. Two brilliant leaders. We should be so fortunate in Australia.

I wasn't that impressed with it I'd say they were excellent.
They were courteous, in a vacuous artificial sort of way. I'll give them that. I mean if someone is addressing you at least do them the courtesy to look at them. Better than the ad hom and hate speech we have to put up with here at present.
They may well be intelligent. That can only be a good thing. But I prefer real to superficial.
The US are providing us with a sanitised style of debate with moderators whose political prejudice can influence the debate. Extra time given here, biased contradictions there.
You can't allow a situation to evolve where 2 opposing parties get away with lying. With one saying black and the other saying white. The ignorant need to know the facts so they can discern who is lying and who is not. Facts are facts and they should be of paramount importance.

Despite the derision of the US by leftists, you realize the level of intelligence and debate compared to Australia is akin the watching the Au and US version talent shows like the voice etc and just realizing the lack of talent AU really has
