Re: How low can Jones go?
In regard to Jones generally spruiking negative rhetoric about Gillard - yes he did need to be pulled into line and hopefully this debacle has done it for him. However, he has apologised and ultimately it should be accepted - only for the fact that he also does a lot of good for the community and he is needed as a mouthpiece for the little people.
He's stuffed up, but getting rid of him will cause more damage than good.
He is the mouthpiece for Can Do - a non-profit organization dedicated to providing immediate aid, sustainable recovery and revitalisation to communities as well as championing the anti-coal seam gas movement which has been gaining momentum daily. There are hundreds, possibly thousands of people he has helped invidually also - as well as being a tireless worker for many good causes.
Unfortunately no-one is perfect.

You gonna pull everyone in that spruiks negative rhetoric about Aboot too? I mean it's only fair... right mantra? In regard to Jones generally spruiking negative rhetoric about Gillard - yes he did need to be pulled into line and hopefully this debacle has done it for him.
Actually he is not "the mouthpiece" for Can Do. He was not an original "member" of it, it was started by Cory Bernadi. Jones as is his want is now apparently a National Patron, one of 2.

Re: How low can Jones go?
Yes of course, but I only see fairly basic criticism about Abbott - nothing particularly gut wrenching. It was obvious that Gillard was suffering deep grief over her father and that was truly a below the belt comment, similar to one that I've seen made here by a member actually.Rorschach wrote:You gonna pull everyone in that spruiks negative rhetoric about Aboot too? It's not acceptable, but you've got to weigh the good over the bad.
I didn't know that - but perhaps Bernadi was vilified more than he should have been?Actually he is not "the mouthpiece" for Can Do. He was not an original "member" of it, it was started by Cory Bernadi.

The bravery of Jones knows no bounds

It wasn't much an apology, was it? Normally when a grown up makes such an appalling arse of themselves as Alan Jones did with his horrible 'joke' about Julia Gillard's dad dying of shame, the ensuing apology would be abject and unqualified. Not shifty and self-serving in its general tone and positively cringe-making in a few specific instances.
But of course you did. Because you're the sort of bloke who'll thrill to the braying laughter of a room full of Hooray Henrys falling about snorting and hooting at a cruel, unfunny joke which relies entirely for comedic tension on another's pain and loss. Or at least the sort of bloke who'll do that when he thinks nobody who might disapprove of such a vile calumny is listening. (It's telling, in that sense, that Jones thought a room full of Young Liberals would whoop it up at his dead dad howler).

Having been caught out, and having reached so feebly for the thin defence of black humour, you know, like our brave sons of Anzac relied on in the trenches at Gallipoli — cue eye rolling, here — to then lay off creative responsibility for the 'joke' on someone who said something to you at a party, was a dazzling act of chutzpah for which I must confess a sneaking admiration. Nice work if you can get a decent speaker's fee for it.

Re: How low can Jones go?
Sophie Mirabella just saved me the effort and nailed that sleazeball Anthony Albanese to the mast.
Labor should spare us all the bull on Alan Jones

Turn it up Albo. Seriously.
The bald-faced hypocrisy of Labor’s Anthony Albanese’s press conference yesterday was breathtaking. He began with the assertion that “we should not give the comments oxygen” (in reference to offensive remarks made by Broadcaster Alan Jones) and then spent the next 10 minutes using those comments in a transparent and clumsy attempt to bludgeon the Opposition Leader.
That’s not just oxygen, that’s accelerant.
Yes, Jones’ comments were offensive. No one is disputing that.
But shamelessly using them in an attempt to drain every last drop of political advantage is also pretty offensive – especially when used as part of Labor’s trumped up, very personal character assassination of Tony Abbott.
Albanese declared: “Tony Abbott has engaged in personal attacks and vilification of the Prime Minister that have sent a sign to people on the conservative side of politics that there’s nothing too low, nothing out of bounds, nothing that goes too far in personal attacks.”
Except Tony Abbott has done nothing of the sort. In fact, the Opposition Leader has strictly limited his criticism of the Prime Minister to her public, policy and political record. Every politician, especially those who hold high office, need to be accountable for their policy stuff-ups. It’s not personal.
But that hasn’t stopped Labor from personal attacks on Tony Abbott. When all else is lost, just savage the bloke who threatens your hold on power. That’s what this desperate narrative is all about.
Seriously disgusting was Albanese’s assertion in the same press conference that “the modern Liberal Party ... says anything goes, engages in personal abuse day in and day out, (and) is particularly strong in its abuse against women.”
Again with the anti-women nonsense. It would be comical were it not so offensive.
And Albanese has the hide to stand there and say this should be the “line in the sand” while he’s the one repeatedly kicking sand in the face of any Opposition member he can find. Women included, as I experienced myself earlier this year.
Albo’s blaming of the Liberal Party for Alan Jones’ comments is akin to blaming the Labor Party for the comments of Labor speechwriter and fellow traveler Bob Ellis. He has said some pretty offensive things about Ms Gillard himself – so where is Labor’s condemnation and their outraged cries of misogynist?
Albanese’s performance yesterday and his shameless personal attack on Tony Abbott will be seen for what they are – further evidence that Labor is, as former Cabinet Minister Lindsay Tanner recently asserted, nothing more than an election machine.
Labor will say and do anything to win the next election.
But they shouldn’t be surprised if their trumped-up, contemptible, personal attacks on Tony Abbott backfire badly. Australians simply don’t buy the sanctimonious, hypocritical BS that Albo served up yesterday. Well sane Australians don't Sophie.
UPDATE:
So Wayne Swan has confirmed it.
The Labor Party machine has decided to shamelessly use inappropriate comments made by Alan Jones for base political gain. Swan’s Punch piece mirrors the “all this aggression, woe is me, it’s all Tony Abbott’s fault” narrative that Anthony Albanese trotted out in his press conference yesterday. It's the Spin cycle Sophie.
Just think about it for a minute – Labor are trying to spin some political capital out of remarks made in extremely poor taste about the death of their Leader’s father.
That’s pretty low. And desperate.
So why have they done it?
Well, let’s look at just a couple of things that haven’t made the front page while the Jones outrage has:
Five boats carrying asylum seekers were intercepted in just 48 hours, bringing the total number of people to enter our waters illegally, just in the last month alone, to 2,319. A record – and more than double the number of people arriving during the whole 6 years the Howard Government Pacific solution was in place.
The Australian Industry Group’s latest business survey has found that our manufacturing industry has contracted for the 7th month in a row and is shrinking at a faster rate, despite Wayne’s rosy view of the economy.
The Government’s own favoured economist Ross Garnaut has warned that Government spending must be cut if our economy is to survive the downturn in China’s economy. So far this year Labor has promised extra spending of $10.5 billion on the NDIS, $6.5 billion on Gonski schools reforms, a $4 billion dental care package, and a $3 billion boost to community sector wages. Where’s the money coming from?
The list could go on much longer. But let’s leave it at that.
The reality is that our Federal Treasurer and the Labor Government should be focusing on these issues and others in the national interest, rather than making mileage out of the grief of their Leader and trying to further this fabricated and underhanded narrative about the character of Tony Abbott. But that is the way of the Progressive Left.

Too bad for you Neffie... your new name.
I post opinions all the time. (I also cop flak for writing too much).
I'm not going to do all the thinking for you.
I post information too.
If you miss it, maybe a quick trip to the optometrist

I would pay to listen to that.
