Where did our concept of "white jesus" come from anyway? Surely he couldn't have looked like the hippy jesus in jesus christ superstar?

He didn't. Somebody made him up.

Around the first century AD most Hebrew males of that region had swarthy complexions and wore their hair short. Jesus was claimed to have been called a rabbi, and preached in the temple, on the hillsides and on the road.

He was a street preacher and traveled from village to village with a small party of followers. A rabbi in those days was also expected to be married.

The Romans of the fourth century AD made up the Jesus of the gospels, possibly based on a real person of hundreds of years earlier.

Then in medieval times, European painters portrayed him with a fair complexion and blue eyes, and long light brown hair.
