The Vatican and I are not on speaking terms since my first marriage, which was deemed a "mixed" marriage because I wasn't (and am still not) a Catholic.

Re: The small things
My first marriage was to a Catholic, she wanted a Catholic wedding.
The first priest we talked was Irish. He interviewed me and at the end said no Catholic wedding, "I was a pagan".
The second priest was pure Puerto Rican, a lovely man. He interviewed me and laughed, said he had it covered under "disparity of cult". We could have a Catholic wedding, I could not take communion but she could and I had to sign a document saying I would raise all children as Catholics. (It is not the first time I made a promise I knew I would not keep.)
Badda Bing badda rosary bead!
We were in like Saint Francis of try to please me.
I was married in Old San Juan in the second oldest church in the Western Hemisphere.
Her father made it like the wedding scene out of the Godfather, huge.
I know he must have been really fucking mad when we broke up four years latter.
Yikes!

We made it to six.
By then one of the priests who married us had died and the other had left the priesthood. My first mother-in-law didn't come to the wedding though - middle-European, anti-semitic old cow.
