I can't seem to understand. Why Yanks keep naming their children Dick? It's so fucking stupid. That's basically insulting your own kid, and setting it for an eternal suffering through mockery.
Dick is a nickname for Richard. I don't know why anybody would want to be called Dick, when Rick, Ricky, and Rich are also variations of the same name. I don't think "Dick" has always been slang for penis, but it has been for a few decades. The youngest "Dick" that I know is 55. It's pretty much avoided nowadays.

I gave my sons old school Biblical names that couldn't be twisted into something dirty. It has worked out.
Damn, that's hard. Rick doesn't have anything to do with Dick. It only rhymes. I just read the same thing, and Teddy comes from Edward. Here in Europe, nicknames are formed ALWAYS on the first three or four letters, which must match.

For example like Texan becomes Texy, not like Texan becomes Dicksan. And like Nikolay goes to Nicki, not like Nikolay to Goodbye. Weird cultural thing I guess. How Greeks break porcelain plates in restaurants - as a cultural habit.

I laugh every time Black Orchid is called B O. In the US, it’s slang for body odor.
I don't know about BO, but there's a Chinese name, it's actually a decently often used name in China, it's Hui. So what Hui means in Bulgarian AND in Russian, and it's even spray painted on a wall in one of the old Call of Duty's, it means a hard cock. Like, a man's dick.

And to make things even worse, in China often you will see the brand, or business name, or just name - Bai Hui, which means Uncle Cock.

Bai you often say to someone who's like an uncle to you, or your neighbor from ur village.
