BS Brian.
Iran Iraq war was over oil and land, but Iran was trying to get Iraq's shia majority to rebel against Saddam.
Who attacked whom, first, Gordon? Saddam or the Iranians? Get back to me when you know, OK?
Saddam, but Iran was meddling in iraq trying to start a rebellion so suck shit.
And yet, Saddam still made a conciliatory speech in which he called for greater co-operation between Iran and Iraq, Gordon. The Iranians were pretty well powerless to export their revolution because of the chaos of the revolution. Saddam's overtures were rebuffed.
BTW, America warned Iran that Iraq was building up troops ready to attack but they didn't believe them. So suck shit again.
Really? And your evidence for that claim is, what, exactly, Gordon?

in an October 15, 1979 meeting between longtime Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) officer George Cave and the Iranian Deputy Prime Minister Abbas Amir-Entezam and Foreign Minister Ebrahim Yazdi. Cave told Mark J. Gasiorowski that he briefed Entezam and Yazdi on Iraqi military preparations and covert operations seemingly designed to facilitate a large-scale invasion of Iran,

"If Iran's leaders had acted on the information provided in Cave's briefings ... the brutal eight–year [Iran–Iraq War] might never have occurred."[9]

Why didn't you add the rest of the sentence, Gordon?
...although no final decision had been made.

Was it 'cause it might have defeated your claims? And why no link to the source, Mmmm?
Yes, the US did is seems warn the Iranians but the Iranians mistrusted the US intensely and ignored the warnings. Nor should we forget:
Although Teicher and Cave's predictions proved accurate, they were the product of circumstantial evidence disputed internally within the U.S. government, and the significance of Cave's briefing has been debated.
So, we have a relatively minor CIA official briefing the Iranian Revolutionary government on Iraq's apparent intentions but his warnings are ignored...

Hindsight is wonderful. Usually 20/20 it rarely falters...
Why didn't Stalin listen to the claims that the Germans were about to invade?
Why didn't Roosevelt listen to the claims that the Japanese were about to attack?
Why didn't the British and the French listen to the claims that the Germans were about to attack?
All failings of decision making. It is why the US and the fUSSR went onto hair-triggers for their nuclear forces - either you used them or you were going to lose them if your enemy mounted a surprise, first strike.

Hi Freediver and others!
Are the Jews the new NAZIs of the Middle East and their treatment of the Palestinians locked in their Gulags under attack by the IDF the cause of all this Muslim/ISIS trouble ?
*Sniff, sniff* hmmm...something is burning. Smells like the low lying narrow bridge the left like to call 'the moral high road' being consumed by a self set raging bonfire of leftwing bigotry, fuelled by hypocrisy and lit with a match of anti-Semitism.
Just another example of why the left throws accusations of bigotry, xenophobia and Nazism about with wild abandon.
Classic self-projection in an effort to assuage their own guilt, while providing the necessary cover needed to allow them to hide in plain sight until they can bring about their very own final solution.
