OK all sorted. I called the AEC and the real cutoff isn't until tomorrow and I can fill out the application (the second ) online which is what I am doing now. Federal member got it wrong and lost a vote for being a dick.

Postal vote applications had to be received by 13th, yesterday. One would think that meant by close of business on 13th but apparently not.

Apart from the fact Australia Post took a week to deliver it apparently cut off is 9.00 am on 13th and mine arrived at 9.30 am and was not accepted.

I am SO mad I am tempted not to vote at all

I will probably vote tomorrow. It's just an annoyance because I will now have to go a long way out of my way to do it because I have no intention of standing in a queue closer to home on Saturday.

I did a postal vote this year too. Filled out the application online and the paperwork arrived in my mailbox the next day, then I posted the completed vote off that night and got an email the following morning (before 9 am) from the AEC that they had received my postal vote! The Austpost must have had a tail wind. This was last week. I applied early just in case it took a while to get here and back again, knowing what AustPost can be line.

I think a lot of people have either voted pre-poll or sent a postal vote this time. Just goes to show how bored we all are.

It's too late now for me to receive the ballot papers in time anyway. When the local member just sent the applications to me I didn't even think that I had to send them back to his office and that he would then have send them on to the AEC. Seems a convoluted way of doing things unless he just wants to keep an eye on what his constituents are doing.

Oh well, lesson learned. Next time I will go straight to the AEC and apply online.
