Mandatory school uniforms

Post by HIGHERBEAM » Tue Jul 13, 2010 8:25 pm

JULIA Gillard has voiced support for mandatory school uniforms, saying they undercut unhealthy competition among children to dress more fashionably.
Unveiling a tax break covering the cost of school uniforms for struggling families, the Prime Minister said uniforms helped encourage “discipline” and a “sense of self”.

However her first election promise means thousands of families that send their children to schools that do not require uniforms will be excluded from the government subsidy.

“Part of a high quality education is learning how to present yourself to the world,” Ms Gillard told reporters in Canberra.

“I believe having a school uniform gives people a sense of self, a sense of discipline.

“I also think it undercuts some of those unhealthy things that can happen at schools when there's a competition for the latest, most fashionable items.”
What are we going to dress them all up like Mao and send them of with Julia,s Little Red Book? They are already trying to force our kids to lean towards the loonie left.where is free choice?

Wow, news break! Aussie kids forced to wear uniforms! It's a socialist conspiracy!

Have you noticed that most Aussie school kids already wear uniforms?

You expect sense out of a RWDB? I am happy if they don’t dribble too much getting the words out!

I've been to schools that have both options. I prefer mandatory uniforms, as it makes everyone else dress down to my standards.

Yes... but I'm sure the ones in Liberal areas will still get the same tax break for dressing their kids up as Hitler, as the Labor supporters who dress them like Mao

It will mainly benefit those who send their kids to private schools. It costs thousands to outfit kids from the elite private schools, while those from public schools usually wear the most basic of uniforms. No hats, blazers, ties, jumpers with school stripes and emblems, tailored pants, shirts and skirts etc. for kids from the public system.
