ETS/GFC/Higher Education report

Post by Jovial Monk » Thu Dec 18, 2008 1:24 pm

Lots happening out there! But no comment here?

Recession getting closer with miners starting to sack workers, next year boy will that accelerate!

The ETS white paper was published, to howls of outrage and more cries from rentseekers.

Higher Education report cites massive underspend on higher education last 10 years, recommends vouchers (of course, boring!) and massive increases in spending.

Not a peep here, a so-called political forum!

Comment?

I haven't really seen much about its recommendations, that is beyond increased spending, possibly vouchers for students to choose their education, and a national system instead of individual state ones. I am in favour of more spending, ambivalent about whether it goes direct to students, but perhaps favour that a little, depending on its impact overall on courses offered, but I know people who are choosing not to study in expensive course areas despite those being their interest and talent, and I think that is wrong, particularly in areas of benefit to the community. And i am against a national system rather than separate state ones because it ties universities too strongly to a federal government aim and influence.
