WW2 in pictures

Post by mellie » Mon May 12, 2025 10:35 am

Some of these moving pictures strike deep at the heart.

Something I'll never understand is why humans want to hurt one another. I mean, of course I understand the larger picture, Greed, gain, survival, etc, but to be that person who drops the bomb from the bloated belly of the aircraft carrying bombs.. ..to know that your very action is that which will commence a tragic chain of devastating events, I just don't understand our own species at times, and even question if we're even human at all.

I don't think I'd make a very good soldier hu. 🤧

Sorry about this, it's that I've just finished reading The Booklovers Library by Madeline Martin and am about to read The short History of WWII.

The one good thing about RA is that I'm able to indulge my favourite pastimes, and passion which is both reading and writing.
Best of all, I get to read books with my youngest child who adores me reading to her every single night before bed. We are currently reading roughly 7 books between us lol....we are almost finished reading The Lost Book of Magic by Amelia Mellor, we've almost finished the trilogy and like always there's that palpable melancholia we share between us knowing that it's sadly coming to an end 💔.... We've also finished the Winter house series, it also has codes, cryptics, cyphers, riddles..... our favourites of course.

:c

Guys, my mother lives on the Central Coast north Sydney, and she still reads to us at least 3 night's a week ( on my chemo nights when I feel too tired or sick to read) so my daughter doesn't miss out. She's currently reading an Enid Blyton novel to us, lol..so that's about 9 books between us 😆💗

The best bit is when we all interject and begin arguing the plot together at once. Lol... even mid sentence sometimes.

Books have a special way of keeping our family connected despite the distance between us.

Happy Mothers Day Mum.⚘💐🌻

You guy's can laugh at me and call me a sook, or a mummas girl, but I really don't care.

Life's too short to be bothered by such remarks, if you have kids, or grandchildren, READ TO THEM. REGARDLESS OF AGE!!!

If you don't have kids, read to others who may not be able to read via LibriVox , because some people can't read for themselves.
An elderly lady next door to my mother is blind and if it wasn't for free talking book sites like LibriVox, they'd feel pretty lonely.

My goal is to provide a few classics recordings before I kick the bucket lol...not that I'll be kicking it anytime soon, I have RA , not something much worse. However, to suppress my over- reactive immune system I am on life-long chemo ( Methotrexate injections) and on these nights, reading makes me feel nauseous, I close my eyes and thankfully my mother reads for us. It takes my mind off feeling sick.
There's plenty of reasons why people need access to FREE audio books sometimes, so if you are a fluent reader, be brave, and consider making a meaningful contribution to a free audio book site like LibriVox. I know there's other's, and even more subscription audio book sites, but ethically speaking 🔊, LibriVox is the best.

If you aren't big on reading, you might enjoy listening to this.

Brown Book of the Hitler Terror

Dudley Leigh Aman Marley (1884 - 1952)

The Brown Book was the first English publication to detail events which were currently happening in occupied Germany in 1933; book-burning and the destruction of universities, the development of concentration camps for Jewish people, forced labour and the use of the "shot while trying to escape" excuse for murder by police. This was the first time such events had been brought into the public consciousness, and the book was supported by documentation with names and dates - substantial evidence of the brutality which was taking place. (Please note the confronting and graphic nature of the content of Chapters 7, 9 and 10 before listening.)

Lord Marley described the book as "a contribution to the fight against Hitler Fascism. This fight is not directed against Germany; it is a fight on behalf of the real Germany." (Summary by Beth Thomas and the Introduction)
