Nearly one in 20 Australians identifies as LGBTQIA+, new ABS data reveals

More than 910,000 Australians — or 4.5 per cent of the population — identify as LGBTQIA+,
according to the first nationally representative snapshot of Australia's sex- and gender-diverse community.

For the first time, the Australian Bureau of Statistics used data from four national surveys to determine the size and characteristics of the LGBTQIA+ community. The data comes off the back of heated debate about whether questions on sexuality should be included in the Australian census.

What would including LGBTQI+ people in the census look like, and who's still missing?

A single question about sexuality doesn't encompass the LGBTQI+ community's complexity and diverse needs, experts and advocates say.

Using the surveys, the ABS were able to extrapolate that 910,600 people were sex- or gender-diverse.

"To put that in context, that's almost the combined population of the ACT and Tasmania. So quite a significant population group," head of health statistics at the ABS Robert Long told reporters during a briefing.

The data found that young Australians aged 16 to 24 were twice as likely as the overall population to identify as LGBTQIA+.

What better way of destroying a civilisation than to have it destroy itself?

Sadly, the majority of those who identify as gay have endured sexual abuse as a child or in some cases, have had either or both poor mother/ father role models. Mental illness is a factor too.
For example, I know three females and 2 males who identify as gay, ( friends who I grew up with and even a member of my own family, stepdaughter) all whom I adore btw. The females were sexually abused or had emotionally abusive fathers ( so were cheesed off men) and interestingly, the males who I know whom identify as gay too had rather interesting female role models, often overbearing, abusive and humiliating mothers.
I think there's definitely a degree of trend phenomenon along with being "gay" these days too, experience/experimentalism also, as far as I'm concerned, let's wait until these kids are 30, and if they're still gay, then ok.
One thing being Christian teaches us is that Jesus loved everyone, the broken, the confused, the sinners .... in fact, he spent a lot of time among the very elements that some consider unworthy of entry into their own churches, homes.
A true Christian keeps loving. Regardless.

The reason why the gays are over represented in politics is because they are a minority group our government has purchased in return for votes. It's as simple as that.

If there was a demographic who identified as " purple wobble gongers " Regardless of their lifestyle.....if there were enough of them, they'd exploit this opportunity to entice votes here also.

It's how the left particularly works, but to be honest, both left and right centre parties do this these days.
To reflect what's demanded by a modern society.
