Trump search warrant: FBI took top secret documents from Mar-a-Lago

A warrant shows the FBI took 11 sets of classified documents
from Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida earlier this week.

One list of documents is marked "TS/SCI" - or top secret / sensitive compartmented information - a level reserved for information that could cause "exceptionally grave" damage to US security.

Mr Trump denies any wrongdoing.

He said the items were unclassified and safe.

The items removed include over 20 boxes, binders of photos, and a clemency letter written on behalf of political strategist Roger Stone, a long-time Trump ally.

Also recovered was information about the "President of France", although it is unclear what that refers to.

As well as the top secret documents, the list includes three sets of "secret documents, and three sets of "confidential" documents.
   
The warrant indicates that FBI agents were looking into potential [highlight]violations of the Espionage Act, [/highlight]which makes it illegal to keep or transmit potentially dangerous national security information.

The removal of classified documents or materials is prohibited by law - a crime for which Mr Trump increased the penalties while in office.
It is now punishable for up to five years in prison.

Absolutely ... but I think the FBI should wait until after he loses in 2024

All the polls show that if trump is nominated, he will lose. The only alternatives to trump at the moment are even more extreme than trump, but smarter. According to polling they might actually win. If they do they can actually cause some real damage to American society. better let trump lose and than jail him, and give the extreme elements time to die away. It would also be more satisfying to see trumps face when he realises he has less supporters than before and he's still going to jail

I would say Trump is headed for gaol. The search warrant cleverly only mentioned government documents, not top secret documents tho some of those were found there.
