NSW has recorded its highest number of new COVID-19 infections since September 11 with 1,360 cases.
Key points:

Of the 1,360 cases reported, 424 are from the Hunter New England area
Authorities have warned that the Omicron variant is likely to dominate Newcastle infections
A woman aged in her 90s died in south western Sydney

Authorities confirmed 25 new cases of the COVID-19 Omicron variant, taking the total in the state to 110.

NSW Health has warned that the majority of cases in a rapidly growing outbreak in Newcastle are likely to be the Omicron variant.

Of the 1,360 cases reported, 424 are from Hunter New England Local Health District (LHD).

Premier Dominic Perrottet had been due to front the cameras for a COVID-19 briefing at 9am today with Health Minister Brad Hazzard and Chief Health Officer Kerry Chant.

However, that press conference has since been delayed until 12pm.

There are 166 people in hospital due to COVID-19, including 24 in intensive care.

A woman from south western Sydney aged in her 90s has died at the Gillawarna Village Aged Care Facility in George's Hall, the third death at the facility.

NSW Health said the woman had received three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine and had underlying health conditions.

Mr Hazzard yesterday ruled out any snap lockdowns or delaying today’s easing of restrictions, despite a big jump in cases yesterday.

A confirmed Omicron case attended Sircuit Bar in Fitzory and the Peel Hotel on Friday night
More than 700 people have been told to get tested and isolate

Victoria's health department said the positive case attended Sircuit Bar in Fitzroy, between 9pm and midnight on December 10, and then the Peel Hotel in Collingwood until 3am.

It's estimated around 320 people were at the Peel Hotel and 410 people were at Sircuit Bar during those exposure times.

The health department said anyone who attended the venues must get tested and quarantine immediately.

Fully vaccinated people must quarantine for seven days, and people who are not fully vaccinated must quarantine for 14 days.

And maybe everyone will finally be in a position to create their own real antibodies. A cold is apparently more debilitating.

It might help actually.
If Omicron is only mild then most people will develop
life saving antibodies to all future Covid.
