Would you pick a turbo 4 cyl or a V6.

I should preface this with the belief that new 4cyls are more than powerful enough and a well tuned turbo can give diesel like performance.

I don't like turbos except if you have to have them - for example on a diesel.
Turbo engines use a turbo which spins at 100,000 rpm or higher.
If the engine ever gets switched off while the turbo is running
there is no oil pressure for the bearing so it won’t last long.
It's just something else that can go wrong and cost you money.

Diesel trucks have used them for decades, so they are a 'proven' technology.

I dislike them on petrols as they 'recycle' heat under the bonnet. A petrol runs hotter than a diesel, so that is undesirable.
The new Landcruisers run 2 separate cooling systems, one for the motor.
An entirely serarate cooling system for the Turbo - it has it's own radiator, pump and coolant. Cooling is a serious issue with petrol turbos.
Oil should be changed more often on a petrol turbo than a petrol non turbo as they are more reliant/demanding on the cooling of oil.

Yes - forget turbos.
A normally aspirated petrol engine will be the best for city type driving.

A turbo will get you speeding tickets because when the turbo kicks in
the car will take off like a rocket - just as a speed camera car sits at the side of the road.

have the turbo tuned for what you want.

It'll only go as fast as you want it to.

Interesting topic. I own an F250 powerstroke turbo diesel and a Mercedes GLS 600 4litre turbo petrol.

The Mercedes has nothing on the torque of the diesel even though its twice the HP.

Next year's car I will be looking at an American muscle car type vehicle as my wife has a range rover which suits our needs for going to the beach house.

It really depends on what type of 4WD you buy and for what reason.

We never go further than our holiday homes in Vincentia or Burradoo. And that's not even off road. So Turbo 4 cyl here.

I always find that more cylinders are better, obviously if you are on a budget for fuel a 4 cylinder is fine but for a less stressed engine, there is no replacement for displacement.
