Getting a new fridge/freezer delivered tomorrow, for downstairs. For brewing beer in.

A Chiq - Chinese brand. Pretty good. Bottom mount, 10 year warranty on compressor, reversible door.
I had never heard of Chiq before, a few years ago they made 8,000,000 fridges !

I bought a fridge a few months ago. I bought it on Veteran's Day Weekend and got a 10% veteran's discount on top of the sale price. I paid $1350.
Whether or not I get to keep it after the divorce remains to be seen. I really like the autofill pitcher. It seems like a much more dependable design compared to in door ice and water dispensers.

We have a small kitchen and a small fridge alcove. Fitted a 380 litre fridge freezer in there - just.
380 litres = 13.5 cubic feet.

To create more space in there, I bought 2 more shelves when it was new.
That made a big difference.


When I got divorced I did a 'Mens help' course. It was really good. Helped a lot.

Most fridges in America are 22-25 cubic feet. Most people keep an extra chest freezer for long term storage of meat, especially if they are hunters and get meat in large quantities. I really like this fridge and if my wife gets this one, I may go out and buy the same fridge when I'm ready. I'm thinking that if my wife wants all the appliances and furniture, that's great. I'll take cash instead and also save on not having to store furniture until I build my home while I live with my brother.

On the "getting to know the new me", I'm excited. My wife has accused me of being lazy. I've always been afraid to tackle big projects because she has always spent too much money and I didn't want to start projects and not have money to finish. I've been afraid to sell everything and live in an RV with my wife because she likes her lifestyle and I can't support her AND take on large projects. This is where I find out if she is right or I am right. I may disappear from the internet for a while as I build my house. I don't think I want to learn video and editing to do a youtube channel, but it would be interesting. I think I have some very good ideas and they all depend on my execution. I should have more disposable income and be solely in charge of my spending. I have friends with specialty skills and I have a few of my own. I'll have to learn the rest, but I'm picking some of it up from youtube and other sources.

My dad framed custom homes and he keeps in touch with his old crew. His main former employee has been a friend of mine since we were kids and he will be a huge help with carpentry.

I work in an industrial electrical field and can wire the house. I plan to buy and study the National Electrical Code book just to make sure I do things right, even though there is no permit and inspection process out in the country here.

Another friend recently installed solar panels and inverters and provides all of his electricity. I will do the same. It's not too different from what I do for a living and the National Electrical Code now covers solar power installation. This friend also has an air conditioning business on the side and he has offered to provide my air conditioning equipment at dealer cost and help me install it.

I have a friend who builds custom homes. He will help me to understand plumbing. I also have a friend who is a plumber who can guide me if needed.

My best friend installs security cameras and internet systems into hotels for a living.

My sons aren't particularly skilled yet, but they are hard workers and will be skilled by the end of this process if they want to help me. I have good skilled technical support and honest and trustworthy friends to guide me. It's all a matter of how smart and hard I work and how willing I am to tackle as much of this myself as I can to cut down on costs. I'll have to have the slab poured and the metal shell of the building erected before I can finish the inside myself. It may take a year or two to finish the building out, but I should have air conditioning and lighting within the first couple of months and I can live in the construction zone until it's finished. My wife wouldn't have put up with those conditions, so now I have some freedom and I'm excited. This has been one of my life goals to build this home and it is integral to my retirement plans. Providing my own utilities will make my retirement dollars go further and it will make me a better "prepper" for SHTF if it ever happens. The 1200 square foot shop will come in handy for projects or maybe generating a retirement income by making furniture, artwork, or other useful things that I can sell in a nearby large flea market type venue that is open for 3 days every month. Sorry for hijacking your thread.

What's your fridge like. Top or bottom freezer or side by side? Stainless, or what color? I'm partial to stainless because you don't have as many corrosion issues. You also don't have to worry so much about the appliance colors matching.

The new fridge downstairs is white. It is a dark area there, so white makes a big difference.
The one in the kitchen upstairs is more silver than stainless. Looks nicer.
I changed the doors on the new one so it is now lefthanded. A big job.

The new one downstairs will do upstairs if the old one fails.
It'll be a bit small but will mean we don't have to rush the purchase of a new one.

I can't get my head around such a large fridge. Must be a cultural thing.
It'ld suit if there were 10 people in the house.
I shop a few times a week, we empty the fridge pretty often.



That course was good because it was not a 'woman hating' course.
There is more than enough hurt going around already, thanks.
It was about men being open, feeling the pain, accepting it. Just slowing down and NOT making any bad rash decisions.
They suggested we do NOT resort to drugs, alcohol or women to 'get over it.'
Now is one of the important times in our lives to try to get a clear mind with sensible thinking.
Decisions made now and actions taken now may have long term effects.
Eat good food, sleep well, meditate, exercise moderately, if you want to obsess in anything, work may be good.
Sleeping is very very important. It is much more important than you think.
