Hasbro, the company that makes the potato-shaped plastic toy, is giving the spud a gender neutral name.

The company, which has sold the toy since 1952, will drop the ‘Mr’ and it will be simply known as ‘Potato Head’ going forward.

The change will start to appear on boxes this year.

Hasbro said the change has been made as Mr. Potato Head needed a modern makeover.

The move comes as other toymakers make moves to update their classic brands to appeal to kids.

Barbie has shed its blonde image and now comes in multiple skin tones and body shapes. Thomas the Tank Engine added more girl characters.
