You dont think this meal may have been altered noting the gravy around the side where looks like something has been removed

Having someone in a nursing home is a kick in the teeth. The best way to get good care for your loved ones is to be there often and without warning. A little good will can go a long way. I travel a lot and keep all of the shampoo, lotion, conditioner, and soap bars. Many families abandon their relatives there and they are always short on toiletries. The nurses' eyes light up when they see a bag of toiletries. Donating your old clothes is also helpful(if not tax deductible). We would coordinate with other family members so that we all showed up at different times and our presence was felt a little more to keep the staff on their toes and make sure that my father in law spent as little time as possible between visits.

That meal is pathetic by any standards. My father in law's food wasn't very good, but it was more than beans and potatoes and there was variety. We would take him food a couple of times a week. He especially liked the milk shakes. We took him a plate from the family Christmas gathering last year.

When my Mother was in a nursing home I used to visit at odd times just to see what went on. I would often show up at dinner time although the main meals are usually served for lunch. Mum was a light and picky eater and often had a sandwich at night but that is what she had requested.

I can't stand baked beans. Let's hope I never end up in a nursing home although the boys threaten me with it occasionally!

My family doesn't believe in nursing homes. They are literally death for their inmates. My mother is 96 and still going strong. She lives with my brother and interestingly, my eldest son. Both look after her and she looks after them. Good on them!
