What have the Americans ever done for us?

Post by Bogan » Wed Sep 18, 2019 1:12 pm

Brian Ross: They've bled us white, the b*****ds. They've taken everything we had, and not just from us, from our fathers, and from our fathers' fathers.
Nom de Plume : And from our fathers' fathers' fathers.
Brian Ross: Yeah.
Non de Plume: And from our fathers' fathers' fathers' fathers.
Brian Ross: Yeah. All right, . Non de Plume, don't labour the point. And what have they ever given us in return?!
BigP: The aqueduct?
Brian Ross: What?
BigP: The aqueduct.
Brian Ross: Oh. Yeah, yeah. They did give us that. Uh, that's true. Yeah.
Super Nova: And the sanitation.
Nom de Plume: Oh, yeah, the sanitation, Brian. Remember how this place used to stink?
Brian Ross: Yeah. All right. I'll grant you the aqueduct and the sanitation are two things that the Americans have done.
BigP: And the roads.
Brian Ross: Well, yeah. Obviously the roads. I mean, the roads go without saying, don't they? But apart from the sanitation, the aqueduct, and the roads--
BigP: Irrigation.
Gordon: Medicine.
Brian Ross: Huh? Heh? Huh...
Wally Raffles: Education.
Gordon: Ohh...
Brian Ross: Yeah, yeah. All right. Fair enough.
Wally Raffles: And the wine.
Nom de Plume: Oh, yes. Yeah...the wine.
BigP: Yeah. Yeah, that's something we'd really miss, Brian, if the Americans left. Huh?
Super Nova: Public baths.
BigP: And it's safe to walk in the streets at night now, Wally.
Nom de Plume: Yeah, they certainly know how to keep order. Let's face it. They're the only ones who could in a place like this.
BigP: Hehh, heh. Heh heh heh heh heh heh heh.
Brian Ross: All right, but apart from the sanitation, the medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, a fresh water system, and public health, what have the Americans ever done for us?
Nom de Plume: Peace?
Brian Ross: Oh. Peace? Shut up!

I don’t try to keep score on what America does for countries or how we may use our technology for leverage. I do hope that the world benefits from all available technology. Clean water and sewage treatment are becoming more important as the population grows. My church has installed wells and built churches in Kenya. I have a friend who is a Baptist preacher and founded a school there.

WW2 without doubt .. the Japs would have smashed us.
But WW1? ... I digress.
I reckon we (Oz) and the Ruskis and the Yanks with their late entry saved the Poms .. Oh yeah and the Frogs .. and a few others.
If Donald Trump is so close to the Ruskis, why couldn't he get Vladimir Putin to put novichok in Xi Jjinping's lipstick?

When I was a child, my Mother used to say "Don't panic, remember Pearl Harbor". We never understood what she meant and we kids used to ask "Who is Pearl Harbor?", thinking it was some lady. She never told us.
