Bought a magazine today on Caravans and motorhomes.
it has a section on how to improve the fuel economy, in brief here it is (rounded off to 0.5L/100 kms)
1/ Right tyre pressure - 2L/100KM
2/ Tyre size - 1L/100KM
3/ Snorkel - 1L/100KM
4/ Diesel chip - 1L/100KM
5/ Tow Vehicle weight - 2L/100KM
6/ Caravan weight - 4.5L/100KM
7/ Cruising speed - 1.5L/100KM
8/ Aerodynamics - 2L/100KM
Wow, surely these are not cumulative ?
So a vehicle set up badly could use 15L/100kms more than a well set up vehicle?

Re: Fuel economy for Caravans/Motorhomes
it can depend on the Vehicles engine size/setup along with the Vehicles own weight.sprintcyclist wrote: ↑Tue Jun 18, 2019 3:45 pmBought a magazine today on Caravans and motorhomes.

For instance - I pulled our van with one car with a 3lt motor and used 16lts per 100ks at 90kph - lets say on a nice day with low winds.
Pulled the exact some caravan with a different car with a 3lt motor and it used 20lts per 100ks at 90kph
Car Number 2 is bigger and weightier in itself so uses an extra 1lt per 100ks by itself. Put any sort of trailer on it and fuel economy goes out the window.
Fords and Commodores - expect 20lts per 100ks
Some of the 7 speed jeeps have been reporting back excellent fuel economy towing vans but they can often have bugs in them with engine lights continually coming on.
And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.
