I guess my kids missed those drills. They do know how to operate every gun I own and know the combination to my gun safe. Of course, the youngest is 17 and pretty intimidating without a gun. Plays a pretty mean saxophone also.
We’d have a lot less shootings if we would control our borders and get rid of gun free zones. That’s where 90% of the mass shootings take place. They can’t have their victims shoot back.

I wasn't aware that school children were allowed to have guns, Texan. Your kids were lucky that they missed those drills. Seems they are commonplace nowadays. Is that something you're happy with? More guns won't stop massacres you realise? That seems to the standard NRA sort of answer to everything, "more guns!" Personally, I think there needs to be more background checks and more safety training and more confiscation of guns from people who aren't suited or trusted to have them...Texan wrote: ↑Tue Apr 30, 2019 8:58 pmI guess my kids missed those drills. 17 is the legal age in TX for children to have access to firearms in the home. His school is protected by armed police and many districts are training teachers and allowing them to carry concealed in schools.brian ross wrote: ↑Tue Apr 30, 2019 9:20 pmI wasn't aware that school children were allowed to have guns, Texan. My brother is a school teacher and is considering it if allowed in his school system. He is already on the security council and gets the same texts as the cops during security alerts. There was a shooting across the street from his school and the students were nervous and wanted to leave. He showed them the texts to show the students that the police were handling it and they were safer inside with police protection.

I don't think teachers should be required to carry at work. Nor do I think that kids should need to be trained to hide. Things are pretty fucked up when your society protects the rights of lunatics and wannabes, Tex, which is essentially what those measures do.His school is protected by armed police and many districts are training teachers and allowing them to carry concealed in schools.

Teachers aren't required to carry at work. It's strictly voluntary and only after background checks and completing training. It's like a normal License To Carry, but for schools.brian ross wrote: ↑Wed May 01, 2019 11:30 am

For anybody to carry a gun in Texas, they are background checked at the state and federal level using fingerprints, they cannot be delinquent in taxes or child support, have no history of mental illness or chemical dependence, no history of domestic violence, no felony convictions, nothing less than an honorable discharge from the US military, and attend a training class for use of force laws and weapon proficiency. It's not easy to carry a gun here. On top of that, there are strict laws against starting or escalating an argument that leads to you shooting someone. It removes your defense to prosecution. On top of that, armed teachers(School Marshals) go through 80 hours of weapon and tactical training with the police on their own time to carry concealed in school.
What lunatics and wannabes are we protecting?

Those that perpetuate the massacres, Tex. I know it's hard for some Americans to understand the idea of preventative legislation but it works downunder. We haven't had a gun massacre since the Port Arthur one in 1996. After that, we banned all semi-automatic longarms and pump-action shotguns from private hands, except for the use of professional hunters who hold a Category C firearms license. We also banned all firearms owned for self-defence purposes. All gun owners must also now belong to a firearms association or a weapon's club. It has not created an avalanche of crime and it hasn't meant the disarming of Australia as many gun nuts proclaimed would happen. There are now more firearms in private hands than there were before Port Arthur.Texan wrote: ↑Wed May 01, 2019 11:50 amTeachers aren't required to carry at work. I love playing with guns, they're fun, but I'm so bloody glad we have few guns on the street here.Texan wrote: ↑Tue Apr 30, 2019 9:54 pm17 is the legal age in TX for children to have access to firearms in the home.
