Turn off your AC Brian and other Hypocritical leftwing nutcases, PleaseAs the southern parts of Australia again warm up Queensland again picks up the tab for South Australia's follies.
South Australia and their progressive ideology that has attempted to run the state on wind and sun (butterfly farts and moonbeams) run woefully short on baseload requirements at times of medium demand.
Queensland, that boring state that runs on tried and proven technology, generating electricity from black coal. Enough electricity to power the entire state at peak demand with excess able to be sold to other states.
The problem lies with the national grid and Kw/h pricing. During peak demand electricity costs more. This means Queensland is generating at close to 100% while South Australia is knocking power stations down.
Queensland is paying top dollar for their own electricity while transmitting enough to South Australia so they don't live in darkness.
That 8 minute wonder that is the Telsa battery. That's right, when called upon the battery lasts for an entire 8 minutes. South Australia has knocked down their reliable generation facilities. They now rely on 'butterfly farts, moonbeams and lithium ions'.
Queensland residents end up picking up the tab for South Australia's folly.
It is about time we bring back a regulated electricity industry and competitive federalism so there is parity and truth in prices being paid.
State governments would once again be responsible for what residents pay for electricity.
In the interim Queensland residents will continue to pay for South Australia in this current hot spell as they crank their 'Green' air conditioners to overdrive.

Millions of critically endangered fish have been killed in the Murray Darling basin to supply water to SA.
Why the hell can't SA do something for itself without affecting the rest of Australia?

Who do you blame in South Australia? Let me guess Labor? Well in reality, it was the Liberal Government under Olsen who sold off the power system to private industry. That private industry decided it was easier (and more expensive for the consumer) to shut down South Australia's only power station at Port Agusta and to stop maintaining the power distribution system. The State Government of the day was told that South Australia needed not one but two interconnectors with the Eastern states in order to allow fall over conditions to apply. The State Government decided not to fund the second interconnector. So, when a storm hit South Australia, the first interconnector was overloaded and the power distribution system failed when power line towers collapsed in the high winds. The renewable energy generators actually worked correctly - when due to high local winds windmills were shut down, the interconnector was meant to pick up the slack. The single interconnector failed because of the overload placed on it. So, we had a succession of systemic failures - nearly all caused by the Liberal Government of John Olsen way back in the early 1990s.
South Australia lacks coal reserves anyway. It has used up the Leigh Creek mine, powering the Port Augusta power station. In the early 1980s, a new reserve was discovered near Sedan of soft brown coal - the most polluting kind. It was never developed (for various reasons, primarily concerning costs). So before you go off on year merry fantasies about how irresponsible South Australia has been with power, at least get your facts straight. The great blackout of a few years ago was NOT the fault of the renewable power sources. It was a failure of the power distribution system which had not been maintained by a private company, not the State Government. Coupled with a lack of a fall over power interconnector it made sure there was insufficient power available while the storm lasted.
What you have failed to address (as usual) is that Coat is polluting. It produces massive quantities of greenhouse gases and that leads to Global Warming and Climate Change. South Australia has addressed it's problems with power. It has installed a massive Tesla battery. It has improved the maintenance of the power distribution system and is installing a second interconnector.

The Medindee lakes fish kill was caused by blue-green algae which in turn was caused by low water flows.Black Orchid wrote: ↑Fri Jan 11, 2019 11:03 amMillions of critically endangered fish have been killed in the Murray Darling basin to supply water to SA.
Nothing, absolutely nothing to do with South Australia. The Murray-Darling system has been mismanaged for decades and most recently the NSW Government has been "double-dipping" to provide more water to irrigators than they deserve. What is needed is for the Federal Government to take control of the System and to stop the states from stealing water from it before it gets to South Australia.
I suppose it could wave a magic wand, Black Orchid? Why the hell can't SA do something for itself without affecting the rest of Australia?
It is the driest state, on the driest inhabited continent on the Earth. Until you have some means to magic fresh water out of the air, South Australia is stuck drinking the effluent that New South Wales and Victoria sends its way. It is your state that is stealing the water, not South Australia. When you lot stop doing that, South Australia might have a chance...

wow a million dead fish some 100yrs old.....and what do they do
thats right
stand around blaming each other...
are these fish being left to rot in the river??..
why not seems the easiest way to deal with it....
buck passing I think its called....
I agree Gladdy should stop blaming the drought for everything...
droughts are inevitable in this country we should be prepared for them same with bush fires....
they are never going to stop....so get off your duff and get ready...dont let this happen again...

I was tempted to suggest that 100 year old dead fish would be way past the rotting stage .. but the 4th line explains what you mean.cods wrote: ↑Fri Jan 11, 2019 7:01 pmwow a million dead fish some 100yrs old.....and what do they do

I haven't heard about this event .. no TV and haven't bought a paper since tues or Wednesday .. but suspect it's due to water temps. I've often seen toadpoles (baby toads) dead in the hundreds, floating just under the surface, due to the water in dams getting too hot. There has been a pretty severe heat wave y'know.
If it's drought related it's means the fish have consumed all the oxygen in the water in that area, and there's not enough flow to replenish the oxygen.
Other than getting Sy, a schizophrenic Samoan who reckons he can make it rain with a rain dance, back from Samoa (deported after 18 years as a fruit picker) I doubt there's anything that can be done, because despite the Global Warming/Climate Change doomsayers' claims to the contrary we can not control the weather.
As for letting them rot ... wel the yabbies/fresh water crayfish will clean 'em up.

Ha, I only saw cods' post 're dead fish' and didn't know there were prior posts and it's really about SA's energy insanity.
Well, I refuse to hook up to the grid, so I'm not subsidising anyone's fridge.
If/when I need electrickery I hook up some PV panels or fire up a generator.
But owning part of a forest means free fire wood, so most of the time I do my part to release my fair share of CO2.
When I see blue flames coming off the wood I know it had CH4 (methane) in it, which I've just converted to CO2.
I still wonder what's in the wood though, when I see green flames coming off it ... I'll have to look that one up.

Yes I was. Despite Lefty infrastructure vandals claims otherwise, the fact is when the wind blows not enough or too hard the wind turbines are disconnected from the grid. It's that simple. The interconnectors shut down to save the benefactor states' systems from SA's grid failure.brian ross wrote: ↑Fri Jan 11, 2019 11:04 amWho do you blame in South Australia?

Assuming that's a typo and you mean 'coal' ... well yes burning it is polluting, but so are your farts.brian ross wrote: ↑Fri Jan 11, 2019 11:04 amWhat you have failed to address (as usual) is that Coat is polluting.
I used to believe that too, but it turns out CO2 doesn't cause Global Warming.brian ross wrote: ↑Fri Jan 11, 2019 11:04 amIt produces massive quantities of greenhouse gases and that leads to Global Warming and Climate Change.
Global Warming causes the oceans to expel CO2 from the water into the atmosphere.
