Winter Olympics Unite Korea

Post by Nom De Plume » Sat Feb 10, 2018 12:55 pm

An excited buzz whipped around the press corps as the unified Korean team assembled to enter the stadium.

It was a truly special occasion, as the fans embraced a team of athletes from both sides of the divided peninsula.
Even the North Korean cheer squad traded their national flag for the unified Korean flag, and at least shared something with the fans around them.

The unification showed in the opening ceremony between the athletes from the North and South was amazing. It truly was special.

I was watching the snowboarding earlier today and now the skating. Can't wait for the skeleton. Crazy assed people.

Also looking forward to watching Pita Taufatofua from Tonga who only saw snow for the first time in his life 2 years ago. He competed at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games in Taekwondo. Now he has turned his sights to skiing. Good luck to him.

Not bad to look at bare chested either :emb

Watching the Women's Slopestyle finals today and the weather conditions are pretty bad. Most of them are crashing and burning. Such a shame.

Not sure why the Russians weren't just banned and be done with it but individual athletes who were not a part of the ongoing drug cheating scandal at least get to compete. Some are allowed to compete individually. They are not allowed to compete under the Russian flag nor are they allowed to wear the Russian colours. They have to compete as OAR - Olympic Athlete of Russia. Any medals these individuals win are also not allowed to be contributed to Russia and will not go in to the history books as a part of Russia's medal tally.

I fell asleep during a part of the opening ceremony the other night and missed them parading. It wasn't until I saw competitors from OAR that I thought "What the heck is this?"

It's honestly the weirdest thing I have ever seen in something as huge as the Olympics.

They chose to dress very drably for the opening ceremony in long grey coats and blue jeans and had to use the Olympic ring flag instead of the Russian flag.

Bizarre!

I have only watched a little bit of the Games. Haven't seen anything exciting, yet. I missed the Opening Ceremony ... forgot all about it. Oh well.

Apparently the wind is wreaking havoc on the slopes.

Probably :rofl

How can anyone rant about child porn when the 'children' are actually young women? Weird sick minds that I don't even want to delve in to. UGH!!

Matt Graham took the silver medal in the moguls. He was GREAT.

I am looking forward to watching Alex (Chumpy) Pullin in the snowboard cross and Scotty James going up against Shaun White in the snowboard halfpipe which I think is on today.

It's hard to find a schedule that tells us when the Aussies are performing. I think you are just expected to know lol

Yes, well done Matt Graham. We usually get a couple of medals at the Winter Olympics. I haven't been watching them as much as I usually do though. I have this bookmarked ... some information there about the Aussie competitors. http://pyeongchang2018.olympics.com.au/team Check the schedule tab.
