Politicians less trusted than unions
Hardly a glowing endorsement you have to take what you can get!
Politicians less trusted than unions
A new survey has found trade unions are more trusted than political parties, but only just.
Political parties are the least trusted among Australia's organisations, falling behind trade unions, religious institutions and business groups.
The latest Essential Research survey found fewer than two in five respondents (18 per cent) thought political parties were to be trusted, bettered by unions (25 per cent), religious organisations (26 per cent) and business (28 per cent).
Former Labor foreign minister Gareth Evans acknowledged the standard of public debate had become "shallow and superficial" over the past few years.
"Although I do have some affection for some three-word slogans - "Abbott's Australia - meaner, dumber, hotter" - deserves something," he told the National Press Club in Canberra on Wednesday.
The challenge for the major centre-left and right parties in Australia and around the world was to win back the traditional levels of support for them that have been eroding, he said.
At the other end of the scale in the Essential poll, almost three-quarters of respondents (71 per cent) trusted the federal police most followed by state police (67 per cent), the High Court (61 per cent) and the ABC (52 per cent).

You know being an American when I look at Australia all I see is vast potential.
You have a large nation and you have so many things to look forward to.
The thing you lack is a feeling of Manifest Destiny.
Every American has within their head and soul the idea that no matter what we will prevail.
We will take crap and make it into something beautiful.
We will persevere over the most dangerous of paths.
And most of all WE DO IT ON OUR OWN!!
Aussie's need this.
You have everything you need just cut your apron strings that the Crown holds and just run with it!!

Re: Politicians less trusted than unions
Well right now we have nothing to be proud of do we? Politicians on either side (let's not even think about the Greens) or the Unions?
To an extent I agree though. At least the Unions purport to work in the best interest of their members. The current crop of politicians we have on all sides are a joke and are only in it for themselves.
The biggest problem with Australians is that they are too complacent. Support for both parties is eroding and donkey votes, or not voting at all, is hardly any sort of protest against what we have and certainly nothing to be proud of if you are not happy with the status quo. It is merely making the motion of sticking your fingers in your ears and shrieking lalalalalala

The Crown has no input into the idiotic decisions our governments make although we do seem to blindly follow their outrageous mistakes without thinking

We follow the Brits with regard to our very lax immigration policies and look how well that is going for them in Londonistan?
One port yes, Port Darwin, and that was one port too many, which the people had absolutely no say in. Do you think the people would have said "Yes what a great idea let's sell/lease one of our most important ports to the Chinese, for next to no remuneration, for the next 99 years"?

Australia was formed by a VOTE, not a WAR. Australia also gave women the right to vote way before America did. Our Constitutional Monarchy works just fine ... for now.Warrior wrote:

PS. Your use of the apostrophe is called here in Australia ... The Green Grocers apostrophe. We do not need "Aussie's" ... the apostrophe does not indicate a plural, it is in place of a letter, as in "it is ... it's".Australia is a federation, a constitutional monarchy and a parliamentary democracy. This means that Australia: Has a Queen, who resides in the United Kingdom and is represented in Australia by a Governor-General.

No need to thank me for the Grammar lesson.
