Selling Off The Farm
Hey all, unfortunately, I need to get going.....but I wanted to start this topic 1st.
Here's the question.
What does the phrase "SELLING OFF THE FARM" mean....to you?
NB The phrase has both personal AND political connotations.
Ok. Catch you all later.

Selling off the assets that provide you with an income.
If Donald Trump is so close to the Ruskis, why couldn't he get Vladimir Putin to put novichok in Xi Jjinping's lipstick?

A political term, used by the ALP to denigrate what the Coalition is doing ... or vice versa.

Re: Selling Off The Farm
All correct!
For me it also means taking responsibility for what we have and what we inherit along the way.
Eg : We've been quite busy as a family taking care of family business ever since Mum died.
We've now decided .... as a family.... NOT to sell the farm. The only way that was going to work was by me giving my inheritance to my siblings.
Result?
My siblings are happy, I'm happy because they're happy, I know Mum's happy because we're all happy. The only person who's not happy is my husband and I've told him to bugger off and not even THINK about coming btwn me and my siblings. Ever! And I've told my siblings about his carry on too! It's made us feel closer than ever during this sad time.
Sometimes you need to set VERY firm boundaries on people. Particularly in times of emotional loss.
But we must always do everything in our power to keep a family together. And I do believe with all my heart that this process starts with understanding the importance of holding onto the farm.
Conclusion/s :
My relationships are far more important than my assets.
I miss Mum dreadfully.
I've played my part in carrying out her last wishes ie that we stay close together as a family no matter what and that her home is never sold but kept in the family for us and for future generations.
NB A Chinese developer offered us $2 million for Mum's "farm", a few months back. My immediate response? It's just not enough. No amount would ever be enough though. Sure, the emotional attachment to Mum's property is very strong....but I'm thinking that's probably a good thing because it's helping us as Australians do our bit to hold onto real estate that could otherwise fall into the claws of foreign ownership.
Anyway....we're off to Mum's to sort out her stuff.
Have a good one
