My Sisters weird health concoctions
Moved from the Coffee Topic.
Talking about strange concoctions my sister has me on "Organic Apple Cider Vinegar with Mother" two soup spoons per day (in a glass of water in my case) she claims it is good for people with high cholesterol. ( My family suffer with genetic high cholesterol...even some of the young kids have it.... but the good side of it is no hearts attacks etc associated with HC)
This is interesting... not sure how true it is though.

No.2 Vicks Vapour Rub
http://www.more.com/lifestyle/exercise- ... ks-vaporub
1. Decongest Your Chest
The most common use of Vicks is to decongest your chest and throat area. When applied to the upper chest, it provides excellent relief of cough and congestion symptoms.
2. On Your Tootsies
Applying Vicks to your feet provides nighttime cough relief. Generously rub VapoRub all over your feet and cover them with socks. Within moments your cough will subside—in the morning you’ll wake up a new, hacking free woman.
3. Achy Breaky Muscles
Vicks relieves sore, overworked muscles. It increases circulation and provides almost instant aid. Use a generous portion and apply it all over the aching area. (Be sure to warn your bedmate as the stench can ensure a nookie-free night.)
4. Get Rid of Nasty Nail Fungus
Rub VapoRub on your toenails if you suspect you have a fungus. Within days, the nail will turn dark—this means the Vicks is killing the fungus. As your toenail grows out, the dark part will grow off and you will have fungus-free feet. Keep applying the ointment over a period of two weeks to fully cleanse nail beds of any remaining bacteria.
5. Stop Your Cat from Scratching
Cats are notorious for scratching every hard surface they get their claws on. To prevent Miss Kitty from ruining your doors, walls, and windows, apply a small amount of VapoRub to these areas. Cats detest the smell and will steer clear. Vicks can also be applied to your arms and legs if your kitty is prone to scratching you.
6. Pet Pee-Pee Deterrent
If your dog or cat is not yet potty trained, put an open bottle of Vicks on the area he or she likes to mark as their territory. The smell will discourage them from lifting their legs and wetting your rug.
7. Headaches Be Gone
Rub a small amount of Vicks VapoRub on your temples and forehead to help relieve headaches. The mentholated scent will release pressure in your head and instantly relieve pain.
8. Humidify Your Sleep
Vicks VapoRub can be used in special types of humidifiers and vaporizers. Ensure your humidifier has an aromatherapy compartment before using. The humidifier will circulate Vicks throughout the air and keep you breathing easy all night long.
9. Paper Cuts and Splinters
To prevent infection and speed up healing time, dab a small amount of Vicks on any small cut or splinter.
10. Ticks and Bugs
If you get bitten by a tick, apply Vicks immediately. The strong odor might help get the critter to release itself and stop bugging you.
11. Reek-free Racehorses
Professional racers smother VapoRub under the nostrils of racehorses on race day. The strong stench deters the stallions from the alluring odor of the female pony and keeps them focused on the race.
12. Go Away Mosquitoes
Vicks wards off mosquitoes. Apply small dabs of Vicks VapoRub to your skin and clothes and mosquitoes will steer clear. If you do get bitten, apply Vicks to the area and cover it with a Band-Aid to relieve itching.
According to WebMD, there have been a few complications in children when Vicks is used inappropriately. A few children reacted negatively and ended up hospitalized when Vicks was applied directly under the nose. Though this is extremely rare and only happens to those who are sensitive to Vicks, consumers should use caution when applying it to the face or on young children.
Even though its strong stench may cost me a few friendships, I am definitely heading to the nearest drugstore to stock up on this little blue smelly bottle. After all, I never know the next time I’ll have a headache, or am heading to the racetrack.

Apple cider vinigar is good for many things. Have you had your cholestrol checked since you've been taking it ?the proof is in the pudding.Redneck wrote:Moved from the Coffee Topic.

As for the Vicks, rubbing it on your feet is supposed to be good, my mother swears by that too.
For headaches, in South East Asia they use Tiger balm for headaches so I can imagine Vicks may work in a similar way.

Q10
Another miracle supplement apparently!
I think I tried this one in the past and ran out, so I must check it out again!
http://www.drsinatra.com/improved-energ ... -of-coq10/
Learn why improved energy is one of the many benefits of CoQ10, when you take it in the right CoQ10 dosage.
Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is one of my top-recommended nutritional supplements for reducing heart risk factors. I simply would not practice cardiology without it.
What exactly is CoQ10? Often called the “miracle nutrient” or the “universal antioxidant,” CoQ10 exists in the mitochondria which are the tiny energy centers in each of our cells. Not only does CoQ10 scavenge and destroys free radicals that cause cardiovascular problems and heart disease, it sparks energy production in every cell of your body including the heart.
One of the Major Benefits of CoQ10 is Increased Energy
The heart is one of the few organs in the body that functions continuously, without resting. Therefore the heart muscle (myocardium) requires the largest level of energetic support of any organ your body. In fact, any condition that causes a decrease in CoQ10 can impair the energetic capacity of the heart, leaving the tissues more susceptible to free radical attack.
Get more of Dr. Sinatra's advice on CoQ10
Although CoQ10 is produced naturally in the body, production wanes dramatically with age and in the presence of specific diseases. Certain medications, especially cholesterol-lowering statin drugs, can also interfere with CoQ10 production. As your CoQ10 levels decline it can significantly affect how you feel, making you feel less energetic and "older" than you actually are.
Refueling Your Body with CoQ10 Can Improve Your Energy Levels, Dramatically
When you supplement with the right CoQ10 dosage, it allows CoQ10 to do its job of sparking the production of your body's cellular fuel, called adenosine triphosphate (ATP). As your heart muscle consumes huge amounts of oxygen and energy, CoQ10 essentially recharges the energy system in the heart, enabling the heart muscle to pump blood more efficiently. At the same time, CoQ10 cleans up destructive free radicals that are by-products of the energy production process.
When your body is low on CoQ10, it's like running on weak batteries. Unfortunately, many people write off this feeling as a sign of getting old. They never realize that the real cause of the problem is a CoQ10 deficiency. One of the most serious heart conditions caused by a CoQ10 deficiency is congestive heart failure. That's why taking CoQ10 is one of the most effective natural remedies for heart disease.
What is the Best CoQ10 Dosage to Take?
Dietary sources of CoQ10 include beef heart, pork, chicken liver and fish (especially salmon, mackerel and sardines). But the average person gets only 2–5 mg of CoQ10 a day from their diet. Therefore, I’m a firm believer in taking a CoQ10 supplement. Here's how to determine the right CoQ10 dosage for you.
1. Are you between the ages of 40 and 60? Your body's natural production of CoQ10 begins to decline after age 40. So, for healthy people between the ages of 40-60, I recommend a minimum daily dose of 50-100 mg of CoQ10 daily.
2. Are you over 60 or on a cholesterol-lowering statin drug? If that's the case, I recommend increasing your CoQ10 intake to 100-200 mg daily. The reason is that CoQ10 production continues to decline with age, so after age 60 it's important to replenish your body's CoQ10 supply. Plus, statin drugs block the production of CoQ10, so if you're on a cholesterol-lowering statin drug it's critical to supplement with CoQ10.
3. Have you had a recent heart surgery, heart attack, or congestive heart failure? If so, I recommend taking 200-300 mg of CoQ10 daily. This is my recommended dosage for using CoQ10 as one of the natural remedies for heart disease.
For the best results, you want to take CoQ10 supplements in divided doses with your meals since it's more readily absorbed with food (especially some fat).
Occasionally, my patients reported a sense of "too much energy" and a few even said it's as though they had too much caffeine. Should this occur, just adjust the CoQ10 dosage down to a more comfortable level for you.
For Maximum Effectiveness, You Want to Take CoQ10 with L-Carnitine
While CoQ10 benefits your health by sparking energy within your cells, L-Carnitine is like a shuttle bringing fuel into the heart cells to be burned as energy. I've observed some dramatic effects in my patients by teaming up CoQ10 with L-Carnitine.
How much L-Carnitine should you take? I recommend taking 250-500 mg of L-Carnitine three to four times a day. Start at the low end of the dosage scale and work up until you achieve the desired effect. Both L-Carnitine and CoQ10 may require fine tuning to obtain the optimal therapeutic blood level and symptom relief.
Now it's your turn: Do you find that CoQ10 gives you improved energy?
