I work in a school with a 98% Muslim intake & 100% students with English as a second language (around 3 pupils in each year are Polish with English as a second language). The problems in this school and others like it are rife- we have higher numbers of unstatemented learning difficulties and higher numbers of child abuse and neglect, and we are in the bottom 4% of schools in the UK for learning standards. In that bottom 4%, we sit with other schools with similar demographics.
The learning difficulties increase is mostly because of the Muslim tradition to inbreed and ignorantly ignore resulting conditions, such as Microcephaly. Child abuse is also more frequent, not only because their culture encourages physical abuse against women and children, but because of practices such as female circumcision (some victims are as young as 4).
I’m a white British agnostic woman and so is the class teacher I work with. Within a few weeks of us starting this fall term, three pupils were withdrawn from our class because we were “too white”. Most of the parents don’t speak English, so even the most basic communication about their child’s education is almost impossible and on some occasions, they refuse to speak to us because of our colour.
We celebrated Eid with them a couple of weeks ago and while they were allowed 2 days off to celebrate with their families, a lot of families took their children away for the whole week and we had to turn a blind eye to it. From experience of trying to take my own son out of school for a holiday, I know this wouldn’t be allowed if the child was white British.
I haven’t been there long enough to write about much else related to my personal experience, but when I had my review, I was told more by a teacher who had been working with the community for over thirty years. In her time, she had come across children with webbed toes and fingers and severe motor and mental abilities, due to inbreeding; incidents of children being used as drug mules and girls as young as 6 being sold off to family members as child brides.
Most religions sicken me: after being born to a rebellious Catholic mother and having the influence of an atheist step-father, I was convinced Catholicism was probably the sickest of them all…..
Then I went to work in a Muslim school…..
