Dont see Holden selling cars for cost price.

What a con, and what saps we've been giving away money to Holden shareholders.
When Holden sells a Holden for cost price to keep an Australian worker employed then there may be a case for subsidy.
When Holden dealerships sell cars for cost price to keep an Australian worker employed there may be a case for subsidy.
Moving Americans back to their own country makes room for more Australians.

I had a couple of Fords but mostly Holdens. I know there is 2 camps at home. Your are either a Holden or Ford fan (before the jap cars came).

I would prefer a Holden over a Ford any day. I found all the Holdens I had were reliable, functional and easy to maintain.

Yes, I know Super Nova. Competition between Holden and Ford and I blame Bathurst (the race). :rofl

Actually, as an aside. I knew a lass who moved back to Bathurst (early 80's) from Canberra and I drove up there to see her and we did the "circuit" ... but the speed limit was pathetic .... 25kph or something. However, I have "driven around the Bathurst race track". Never been to one of the races though. Not into motor sports. ;)

Without US corporate backing Holden would have gone out of business long ago, you idiot. So yeah, more room for unemployed Australians would be a lot more accurate of a statement, Skippy.

Seriously, go look up an economics concept called the "Paradox of Plenty" to see why Holden is so blindingly uncompetitive. You poor bastards have the Dutch Disease bad.

Well having driven fleet cars... Ford Falcon and Holden Commodore, I prefered the Ford, better handling, better ride... But having recently owned a HSV Clubsport and a Holden Ute, they were pretty good cars too.

Is that before or after you people and your government keeps lowering import tariffs to the point they made Holden hugely uncompetitive even with the backing of on of the largest corporations on the planet that was in turn backed by the US Government? Do you really want me to list off all the things your government has done to make it so your native industry cannot compete worth a fuck in your own markets, never mind overseas markets? Do you even know what the Paradox of Plenty is or how it explains why your country has so much mineral wealth, yet so little in the way of exports that aren't non-renewable natural resources?

Do you have any opinions at all that are even remotely informed, Rorsch?

While I am a proud to be an Australian abroad have some sympathy for Chards view.

1. We lived off the sheep's back by exporting raw wool for a long time
2. We now export raw material

We are a smart nation. We need to back value add industries that add value to the raw material we have.
If we don't we are the equivalent of the Arabs. What do they do when they run out of oil. What do we do when we run out of raw material to export of those markets don't want these resources.

We should value add and export all the fucking red and green tape to the North Pole. We've got enough to keep Santa in wrapping for centuries. Couple that to a minimum wage of ~ $35k a year, industrial relations that wouldn't be out of place in the late 70s and you have the perfect system for scaring the living crap out of any risk taking start up.
