Media Legislation

Post by Aussie » Mon Mar 18, 2013 6:49 pm

Yeah, I know there are other Threads, but on political issues, I'd rather not debate with nut cases.

So.....the Media bitch is that ultimately.....this is a sneaky way that Government may control the Media. Have I got that right?

Obviously the government wants to control the media. Conroy & Co. haven't thought ahead to when the Coalition is in power - then they will have control too and the media will do their bidding.

People need to know about corruption in government or the opposition.

At every level of Government, Local, State, and Federal everything I do of impact on the rest of you is subject to Government control. Why ought the Media be immune from inhibition on and control of their anti-societal conduct?

Care to provide some examples of how you affect our lives?
How the government controls it.

Care to explain how this is the same as a government trying to control what is said about it in the media and what is allowed to be said about it?

Seems to me they'd be hurting themselves and depriving the public of information to debate.

I guess they think ignorance is bliss eh?
DOLT - A person who is stupid and entirely tedious at the same time, like bwian. Oblivious to their own mental incapacity. On IGNORE - Warrior, mellie, Nom De Plume, FLEKTARD

Yes that is true - so leave our reading and thinking alone. Some of these journalists work extremely hard to uncover corruption, secret agreements and legislation pushed through in the dead of night.

The media will say whatever they're told to. I thought Gillard was socialist leaning at one time, but it looks as though she's been bitten by the fascist bug. The days when so many of us detested Howard - we got solace from the opposing articles about him. This will end any speculation about who's controlling us. Australia will no longer be considered a democracy.

I'm gonna humour you for the moment. The instant you go 'nut case,' I will just drop off.

How the government controls it.
Example 1. I am required to drive with a designated blood alcohol level. If I don't, apparently it affects your life, and there is legislation which proscribes against my driving while beyond the limit set by Government.

Example etc etc ................ You can fill in the endless gaps.
Care to explain how this is the same as a government trying to control what is said about it in the media and what is allowed to be said about it?
Sure....there are defamation laws which are intended to limit what you say about me if you are lying. Why should the 'Government' not have the same protection?
Seems to me they'd be hurting themselves and depriving the public of information to debate.
No. Debate as much as you like. Just don't talk shit and expect go get away with it.
I guess they think ignorance is bliss eh?
Just like the bloke who does not comply with the Government's taxation laws....he too could claim ignorance.

The Media has enjoyed far too much latitude over many generations. They are abusing that now, and they have proven to be incapable of self regulation. Murdoch/News of the World. The Courier Mail/Dr Death. The Courier Mail/the Stolen Children.....and there will be a zillion other examples.

Fact- This new media package is not open for debate among the general public
Fact- They have tried to pass this without scrutiny ie, on the sly.
Fact- The public should decide what is too much and is too little latitude, not a panel of cherry picked beneficiary's.

Well, you might as well make yourself comfortable Aussie, given I wont be around here much with your habitual trolling and undermining of members who's political views you oppose, but before you go off half cocked re- the new media package, can I ask ....have you actually read it in it's entirety?

If so, feel free to pop the link here in this thread so others here can benefit from having made an informed decision irrespective of their political stance also.

Didn't think so.

Ps- Mantra was one of the more tolerant of your antics here on PA, yet here you are being downright condescending and berating her for her views even.

When ever will you learn?
