Manners

Post by Bart » Wed Jan 11, 2012 8:05 pm

I know a lot of people fail with having manners especially on this forum.
Are manners merely for the benefit of women?
Do women have any good manners that are for the benefit of men?
So what do you consider would be appropraite or good manners for the following.

Have you ever given up your seat for a pregnant woman?
Yes, many times
Yes, once
No - I've never been in the situation
No - they can stand

Is it reasonable to wait for a pregnant woman to ask for a seat?
Yes
No
Not sure

Have you ever told someone to give up their seat for a pregnant woman?
Yes
No

Mothers, when pregnant were you ever left standing on public transport?
Yes
No

Should there be seats reserved on public transport specifically for pregnant women?
Yes
No
Not sure

Is there anything wrong with men or women referring to male or female work colleagues as "darl", "love", "pet" or "hon"?
Yes
No
Not sure

Are manners on the decline?
Yes
No
Not sure

Men, which of the following would you do?
Let a woman enter and exit a lift first
Open a door for a woman
Help a woman take a pram up or down stairs
Pay for dinner on a first date

Women, which of the following do you still expect a man to do (you can choose more than one):
Let you enter and exit a lift first
Open a door for you
Help another woman take a pram up or down stairs
Pay for dinner on a first date
Women...if they had brains they'd be men

I dunno Nef - I'm answering Bart's questions, so you need to ask him/her what conclusions can be drawn from the evidence.

Then, ask Bart about the internal validity of the survey tool, and whether selection bias will null any inferential conclusions.
