What's for dinner?

It was dark moon, right tide and last day of the season, son went prawning with his mates. So estuary prawns tonight , lots of them, just boiled in sea water.

We just had toasties, ham,cheese, tomato.

Hey Tld, when I lived by the Hawkesburry River, there were these kids that sold 4L icecream containers full of prawns for $10.

They were only school prawns, but they ran rings around those slimy nasty frozen or thawed things in Colesworth, were sweet and delicious, and we'd often buy bread rolls, butter them, and just eat them while they were still warm on the wharf . Prawn butties.

They were sometimes fiddly, but were worth the wait.

Then thread the leftovers onto a hook and fish off the same wharf. Lol

last night I had Coles finest Margaret river shiraz sausages - very tasty.

Democracy sausages.

MRS sausages are good and I use them when don't feel like more elaborate cooking, however I prefer mafia (Sicilian style) bangers.

Avocado prawn sandwich is the way to real bliss.

Prawns without avocado are the best bait for flathead, bream and even bully mullet.

Actually, that sounds really good.

This said, I'm a bit fussy with my seafood and unfortunately live too far from the sea ( Ballarat) to trust anything local, so I might need some tips on where I can find some nice local prawns .....I am happy to drive if you know where a decent seafood co-op is.

I refuse to eat imported seafood.

But I draw the line driving all the way to the Hawkesburry for an icecream container of freshly caught and cooked prawns , even for $10.

When we go up next, I definitely will, now that I am not in as much pain and am getting back to myself.

I've been in a deep freezer for the past 5 years.

My daughter decided she didn't want tortellini tonight, so we had gourmet pies, ( Aldi sells them, the filling is slow-cooked) and there's actually meat in them, unlike elsewhere lately.
Served with boiled cabbage, honeyed carrots and baby beans.
( beans were frozen)

My daughter loves her veges, and I'm grateful she's one of few kids these days who actually loves all veg from the braccia family.

I have had kids here who have asked me what cabbage is, I kid you not.



Prawn and avocado sounds amazing I haven't done this before, even better on rhy bread. Dark or light. Or on rye crisp bread.

Rhyvitta or similar.

I have made prawn and avo salads, and had prawn and avo on chicken snitzels with holindaise sauce, but the simplicity of a prawn and avo buttie is very appealing ....something I could see myself taking to next church family picnic.
Or any picnic.
