I love Christmas as much as the next guy, but I'm tired of being pitched to by every retail business on Earth. Now that my kids are grown, I'd like to cancel the gift giving if I could get Mrs. Texan on board. Gifts only for the children. (granddaughter, great nieces, etc.....) I could even give cash to my kids and let them spend it as they want. I'm just tired of being advertised to. That's not Christmas. Besides, the best sales are after Christmas.

Christmas is a time for GIVING.

My grandkids are older now but I still like to give them gifts at Christmas and for their Birthday. To take the hassle out of "what to buy", I allocate $80-85 per kid and get my daughter to buy what they "choose". They seem to enjoy opening a parcel or three (that I wrap and put under the tree) on Christmas morning. They also put up the Christmas tree as it is "traditional" at Grandma's.

When they turn up on Christmas morning, each one laden with gifts for Grandma - I get a huge surprise as I have no idea what they have chosen for me.

Yep, we decided to give gifts to the kids only some time ago.....I think it was about 1979...….
