Iran has summoned the British ambassador over the seizure of a supertanker believed to be breaching European Union sanctions by carrying a shipment of Tehran's crude oil to war-ravaged Syria.
The Grace 1 supertanker was boarded by Royal Marines off Gibraltar, the British territory at the entrance to the Mediterranean.
The UK said it was stopped for breaching longstanding European sanctions on Syria, but Spain's Government said the ship was stopped at the request of the United States, which has imposed sanctions on Iranian oil exports.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi called the ship's seizure "odd and destructive".
Iran's Foreign Ministry summoned British ambassador Rob Macaire to voice "its very strong objection to the illegal and unacceptable seizure" of its ship.
The diplomatic gesture lifted any doubt over Iran's ownership of the vessel, which flies a Panama flag and is listed as managed by a company in Singapore.
Shipping data suggests the tanker was carrying Iranian oil loaded off the coast of Iran, although its documents say the oil is from neighbouring Iraq.
While Europe has banned oil shipments to Syria since 2011, it had never seized a tanker at sea. Unlike the United States, Europe does not have broad sanctions against Iran.
"This is the first time that the EU has done something so public and so aggressive," said Matthew Oresman, a partner with law firm Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman who advises firms on sanctions.
"I imagine it was also coordinated in some manner with the US given that NATO member forces have been involved."
"This is likely to have been meant as a signal to Syria and Iran — as well as the US — that Europe takes sanctions enforcement seriously and that the EU can also respond to Iranian brinkmanship related to ongoing nuclear negotiations."

I don't understand what is everyone's problem with Iran. I mean Iran don't interfere with anyone's business, they look after their own interest, and don't go around the world - policing over innocent countries, like the dumb Americans do. Leave Iran alone.
The one that says the least can often have a very different perspective and hold the answer. The least qualified person may hold the most wisdom. When you don’t have knowledge or experience blocking your perspective, you can see problems and solutions.

Trump couldn't find his own arse with a map and both hands. He has effectively no military experience and no understanding of military conditions in the Gulf region.
Why, of course! That's why ISIS and its caliphate are so much stronger now than they were under Barack "Mad Dog" Obama.

No, it's just funny, period, when you claim that Iran doesn't interfere with anyone's business.
Here, do something outrageous and study a little history.

Are you mentally challenged, or just a liar, hiding facts? What were they doing in Iran waters in the first place?
You can measure it. That point where the American animals were captured, is only 104 km far from Iran's coastal line. I wonder what Yanks would've done if Iran war boats were 64 miles off to Houston. Maybe they would've met them with candy, fireworks and VIP escorts (whores).
I know I can't expect a lot from you, but at least some honesty would be appreciated. Don't lie to the people here, don't be such a bitch!

Someone who always uses facts to back up his words is usually the opposite of a retard. The one who points with finger and shouts "here's the retard", is usually the one that has no control over his own life, and is always angry when facts are presented. The typical liberal snowflake SJW.
