Why did it happen? Wasn't it because some Useless dikhead was posting crap about who was on and conspiring together at the same time against him. That was great and jolly fun. It out bluffed the conspirators. I loved it. It was also very clevah of me.

"On the Tom Toms" is fine with me. Why would anyone want to see who is browsing which forum or, more to the point, who is typing or reading a PM anyway? That in itself was more kindergarten than just taking away the option.

Well since I used to work odd hours and i used it to see if anyone was on and if it was worth looking for new posts.
It's handy if you want to talk to someone in particular and not wait a day for a reply.

You are half right. I was watching what was going on, never hid that I was doing so.....matra became upset that I could see no more, no less than every other ordinary Member, complained to FD who then stuffed around and produced 'on the tom toms.' It was an over kill on his part, reacting to a complaint from mantra.

NOBODY but the Admin and Mods can see who is reading what Forum or getting PMs, IF you have HIDDEN your self, which most of us have. You, Mantra, George and the rest of you are paranoid. Mantra whined and it was changed to Tom Toms.

Point about all this is—get rid of that idiotic “on the tom toms” and make your mark as Admin.

Get rid of AiA as mod and be your own man.

Simplify the forum structure and the board will look busier than with too many forums some of which like Tech should be visible to guests, no need to hide which I why I suggested moving the Tech threads to OT and ditching the Tech forum.

Some additional sub-forums wouldn't go astray. Ones that won't get lost in Off Topic etc. At The Movies, for instance, often gets buried as other topics are added and it can get hard to find. Get rid of Off Topic and replace it with In The News/General Discussion (or whatever) and add a few general interest forums like, say, Entertainment, Pets, Food etc as stand-alones that are easy to find. Or keep Off Topic and add some additional sub-forums.

I just think the words Off Topic are off putting to potential new members who may just want to test the waters for awhile before they get into the thick of things. Even though Politics is, and should be, the main arena - Off Topic gives off the vibe that if you don't post in Politics don't post at all because everything you say is off topic.

Most forums have general interest sub- forums. It doesn't take away from the politics - it adds to it.

Abuse is subjective and PA does definitely need some cleaning up but whilst some abuse is right out there and 'in your face' there are other forms it takes here by way of provocative posts which incite abuse and also constant, more passive, put downs whereby it is hoped the recipient of the put downs will hurl abuse and therefore can be reported.

Neither form is better/worse than the other.

You cannot poke a bees nest and expect not to be stung.

So, in order to clean up the 'in your face' abuse the passive and provocative put downs also need to be addressed.

Come on. This place is not a bee's nest or the traditional bear in the 'poking' story. It is presently, generally, a field of wet lettuces who would not know a political debate if they were living with it. This is PA......abuse as part of a post, and not the essence of the post, is part of the territory. What is not part of the territory is the pure vulgarity, the obscenity, the forgery, the violence to female genitalia and the absurd assumption of ownership of the place. That has to be slapped down by Admin and the Members generally.

If you cannot handle the subtle and cleverly framed abuse which is traditional to the place, then that's tough. Reacting to it by 'upping the anti' into the kindergarten 'gross' simply demonstrates pure dumb and stupid, a complete lack of smarts, and drives people off.

There are a couple here who would never support me while they are vertical, but their conduct, I regard as totally acceptable. (Mind you, they are also as dumb as dog shit on politics, and how it works.) What is not acceptable is that they stand by mute while others of their 'side' reduce PA to a sewer.

You have never been capable of giving or recognising "subtle and cleverly framed abuse which is traditional to the place".

You are not the bastion gatekeeper of witty repartee that you envisage yourself and you are also as "dumb as dogshit on politics and how it works".

I seriously doubt you are capable at all in posting to politics unless it would be off-topic protection of another lefty getting thrashed in debate by your usual tactic of targeting the debator that is thrashing the target of your affections.


...and of course we have Monk bringing up his tired and tested bullshit about forum formats, merging forums, on the tom toms etc etc etc which I gather will continue adnausem until someone caves and gives into his fiddling at the edges while he burns the place with his lie/flood/lie/flood spam attacks while off his face in the early hours of the morning.
