No, that's not the only manner in which support is shown. It is shown in the context of debates, throughout question time, and beyond that in discussions had outside the chamber when policy is being developed and negotiations are underway. I used the word support generically and correctly in that manner. You can claim it means "votes" all you want, but you are incorrect and, regardless, shifting it to be that definition is irrelevant in the discussion because that is not the point I was making.

So now you're shifting the goalposts. You said there were "no consequences" and that he "never voted" and now you're saying "no pattern". There's a massive difference between the two. He does it once, for whatever reason, he could do it again and if it was merely a stunt then that's still a consequence. As much as Abbott and Pyne looked silly that day, so too did others place the blame squarely at the ALP's feet.

I was aware it happened and didn't think anyone would try to make an issue of it when it was a one and only and many thought it was a stunt used to embarrass the Opposition which it did.
Which is pretty much what I stated.
The stupidity of saying someone's vote is tarnished and can't be accepted when they are still an elected representative is IMO foolish... they were made to look foolish and immature.

Let's be clear: you said "no consequences" and "never voted" and now you are backpeddling. Perhaps be more careful in the future about speaking in absolutes. It changes the scope of the discussion and it also changes the complexion of the issue. In this case that complexion is directly relevant to the points be made.

Which are that it did in fact have a negative impact on the ALP. It didn't just embarrass the Opposition, it embarrassed the ALP as well because they too were seen to be engaging in childish stunt plays and questions were again raised as to why they had not put pressure on Thomson to resign. Had the ALP gotten rid of Thomson earlier and put pressure on him to resign that stunt would never had occurred.

Thomson who got only 3 months gaol (of a 12 month sentence) is appealing... lets all hope he actually get sat back on his arse and gets 12 months which was the original sentence length.
